School Committee votes to approve redistricting plan effective Sep 2025 (video)

The Franklin School Committee met as scheduled on Tuesday, Oct 8, 2024. 6 members were present (O'Sullivan not present).

I joined approx 8:15 PM via YouTube and then in person as I came in from the debate in Medway. The Committee was still discussing the proposed redistricting plan and boundary line.

Brief summary:
  • The Committee did vote 6-0 to approve the redistricting plan.
  • The Committee did vote to amend the recommendation on inclusion of the former DT students/Families in an exception, then tabled the full motion (as amended) to the next meeting. They are looking to clarify that the expansion does cover the 9 students mentioned.

Girls Soccer = Franklin, 4 @ Sharon, 4 – Final
– Four different Eagles found the back of the net to extend their unbeaten streak to three games with a rare point against the Panthers, who allowed four goals for the second time in two days. Sharon coach Becca Kemp was thrilled with her team’s aggressiveness going forward. Sophia Melpignano, Ashlyn Kelleher, Jessica Li, and Esha Siao all got on the board for the hosts.

Boys Cross Country = King Philip, 30 @ Franklin, 27 – Final

Girls Cross Country = King Philip, 34 @ Franklin, 21 – Final

Franklin, 156 @ King Philip, 153 – Final
– In a clash of the two top squads in the Hockomock League, King Philip pulled out a tight three-stroke win over rival Franklin to secure a share of the Kelley-Rex division title alongside their rival Panthers with both teams finishing 9-1 in division matches. Junior Jason Silva was a co-medalist for the match, firing a team-low 37 to lead the way for the Warriors. Junior Evan Regan added a 39 and senior Cam Hasenfus and junior Leo Dowling both came in at 39 to round out the scoring for KP. Franklin’s Liam Lewandowski also carded a 37 to earn co-medalist honors as the Panthers’ low round. Tyler Perlman shot a 39 on the day and both Caden Sullivan and Jack Nelson finished the round at 40.

Franklin TV has the 10th Norfolk Candidate Debate - Oct 8 video for replay (video)

State Representative Jeff Roy met his challenger Charles Bailey in a debate on Tuesday October 8, 2024 at the Medway Middle School. The debate was arranged and hosted jointly by the Republican and Democratic Town Committee of both Medway and Franklin.

The debate was live streamed by Medway to their cable subscribers as well as to Facebook. Franklin likewise broadcast to their cable subscribers and to YouTube.

After a brief delay to allow for a technical issue to be resolved as well as the Medway Fire Chief to allow additional participants, as the room capacity had been met, the debate began and lasted just over an hour.

SAFE Coalition shares series of teen Questions & Answers for Mental Health Awareness Month

"In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, every day we will post a question from a local teen that was submitted to us over the last month. We can answer questions without shame; the world of recovery and support is endless!
Check back in daily for questions and answers!
“How do I help someone who is struggling when I am struggling too?”
You can be supportive without trying to fix their problems. Empathy goes a long way. Supporting each other can also be really positive and give us a sense of purpose, as long as we set healthy boundaries & expectations about how much we can help others when we need to help ourselves. To help each other, you can engage in healthy activities such as exercise, mindfulness, and volunteering."

Why are there multiple calendars?
Respectfully, the Library and Senior Center calendars are too full of events to include all their events so we tend to focus on the major events. Town and School meetings are also kept separate. Links for all the calendars are shared here:
