Circle of Friends Coffeehouse: Ellis Paul - Sep 21 with Rachael Kilgour
ELLIS PAUL
with special guest Rachael Kilgour
September 21  -  8 PM - $30
Ellis Paul returns to the Circle of Friends Coffeehouse on Saturday, September 21st.  Ellis is one of the most significant stars in the modern history of folk music. He is a critically-acclaimed singer, songwriter, poet, and troubadour originally hailing from a potato farming family in northern Maine. He is the recipient of fifteen Boston Music Awards, second only to multi-platinum act, Aerosmith. Over the course of twenty years, Ellis Paul has built a vast catalog of music which weds striking poetic imagery and philosophical introspection with hook-laden melodies. He has bridged the gulf between the modern folk sound and the populist traditions of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger more successfully than perhaps any of his songwriting peers. http://www.ellispaul.com/

His music has been shared with a wider audience as well, through commercials, documentaries, TV shows and in the soundtracks of several blockbuster films, among them three by the Farrelly Brothers -- "Hall Pass" (starring Owen Wilson and Alyssa Milano), "Me, Myself, & Irene" (starring Jim Carrey) and "Shallow Hal" (starring Jack Black and Gwyneth Paltrow). Peter Farrelly summed up the sentiments of all those who have come to know and appreciate Paul's music by referring to him as "a national treasure."

"Ellis Paul is a master storyteller. He combines the sensibilities of Bob Dylan and Bill Morrissey and delivers it with a passion that sets him apart in the company of a new breed of songwriters."
- Performing Songwriter Magazine

"Despite his success and sense of history, Mr. Paul remains an artist with his eye on the future and an interest in discovering the transformative potential in his music." - The New York Times
Rachael Kilgour

FHS field hockey and golf teams post wins on Wednesday

Via HockomockSports.com we share the results of the FHS fall sports action on Wednesday, Sep 11, 2019

Field Hockey = Canton, 1 @ Franklin, 3 – Final
– Franklin took the lead just over 10 minutes into the game and added a pair of insurance goals in the final 12 minutes of the game to beat visiting Canton. Freshman Kaitlyn Carney put the Panthers ahead with an unassisted tally in the 11th minute. Carney took a feed from Stephanie Bell and finished, making it 2-0 with just over 10 minutes to go. Amanda Lewandowski gave the Panthers breathing room, scoring with less than eight minutes to go on assists from Carney and Leila Frankina. Canton freshman Ellie Bohane got the Bulldogs on the board with just over two minutes to play. Neilee Hess made three saves in net for the Panthers while Riley O’Connor turned away seven shots for Canton.

Golf = Taunton, 202 @ Franklin, 158 – Final
– Franklin captain Jack Paterson had his best round of the season, earning medalist honors with an even par 35 to lead the Panthers past Taunton. Nolan Norton followed with a 40, Pat Dolan added a 41, and Brian Sandham finished with a 42.

Volleyball = Canton, 3 @ Franklin, 1 – Final
Ryan Lanigan, founder and Editor-in-Chief of HockomockSports.com, provides the game recap:
"The battle between defending division champions Franklin and Canton lived up to the billing on Wednesday afternoon.

The Panthers, reigning champions of the Kelley-Rex division, and the Bulldogs, who won their eighth Davenport crown last season, went back-and-forth, trading wins in the first two sets before Canton pulled away for a 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-22, 25-18) win.

Over the course of the first three sets, the teams were never separated by more than six points, and only once in each set did the lead reach that high. And the leads all came early as the teams were within a point (19-18) in all three of those sets.

After the Bulldogs finished the third set with a 7-4 run to get a 2-1 lead in the match, they came out and played their best set in the fourth game to clinch the win."
