Volleyball = Franklin, 3 @ Bishop Feehan, 0 – Final 

– Franklin went on the road and returned home with one of its most impressive wins of the season, knocking off previously unbeaten Bishop Feehan in straight sets (25-22, 25-20, 25-15). Taylor Lacerda notched seven digs, put down 10 kills, and added an ace while Makayla Kuykendall had a big all-around performance with 19 digs, seven kills, three aces, and a block.

Great team win against a very talented @Feehan_VBall team, a lot of fun to watch and a lot of energy all around! 25-22  25-20  25-15

Adventure Scientists - Help Protect Tulip Poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera)

Apply to this project if you are a hiker, a birder, a biker, a forager, or want to contribute to a sustainable future for our world's forests.

Do you like to travel and explore outside of Franklin? Do you frequent western and southern Massachusetts? Help further the knowledge of tulip poplar in the state until December 31, 2023 through the Timber Tracking Project. 

WHAT: Collect leaves, twigs, and in some cases wood cores

WHEN: Now through December 31, 2023

WHERE: Public lands (forests, refuges, reserves, parks) throughout sampling range pictured above

DIFFICULTY: Easy/Moderate. May require off-trail travel for short or moderate distances. Multiple sample types. May require accessing leaves in the high canopy; Training and tools are provided to do so.

You can collect by yourself or with as many partners as you'd like! You can apply with up to 3 partners and your team will receive one gear kit for the field sampling. There is no requirement that you organize a big group or cohort, but if you have friends that want to participate, you can each apply and sample together. 

To apply please visit the Timber volunteer page where you will be able to find the application and learn more about the project and mission. Once you apply, you will get access to the online training for how to identify and sample tulip poplars. 

Here are the volunteer qualifications:

• Must be 18 years of age or older (minors are welcome to join sampling outings but asked not to lead data collection)
• Able to use a smartphone to collect data
• Have the experience and ability to travel in the outdoors with at least one partner safely
• Previous field data collection experience is preferred, but not required
• Adventure Scientists will supply you with the tools and training necessary to collect samples from the forest. You are required to follow all environmental, safety, and permitting protocols.

Davis Thayer Reuse Cmte sets 2 dates for open house to walk through; Fri Oct 20, & Sat, Oct 21

Quick recap:

• Recreation could use the space, would likely not need all of it. Concerned about the expense of renovation for the facility. Are outgrowing their Beaver St location and could use more space. Possible to combine with some arts and recreation usage 
• Police not really interested in building or location (land). Per their initial and unofficial planning, the land is short of what they estimate (only 3.8 via 5 acres), and as has been revealed the building would require significant structural renovation to be used for a station. Much discussion and insights revealed around the comparison of police & fire use of their facilities. Police Building committee on their path to do a Request for a Proposal (RFP) for an Owner Project Manager (OPM), get an architect and start confirming the requirements, etc. Per state building process, the OPM is critical and really "owns' the process of determining the outcomes (coordinating with the Town and committee of course).
• Housing uses were briefly touched upon. While arts & cultural uses were mentioned, no one spoke to this during the session.
• Much discussion around the clean out to prepare for the open house/walk through and insistence of some to make some of the stuff (i.e. mostly junk) available for "the community" to go and pick if they want. Still to be worked out. The dates for the walk through were set as Friday, Oct 20 from 2 to 5 PM and Saturday, Oct 21 from 10 to 2 PM

In accordance with the Town of Franklin Zoning By-Laws, the Franklin Planning Board will hold a public hearing at the Town Hall (and can also be attended remotely) on Monday, October 16, 2023 at 7:00 PM in the Town Council Chambers of the Franklin Municipal Building, 355 East Central Street, for two Special Permit and Site Plan applications prepared by GLM Engineering Consultants, INC, Holliston, MA, and submitted to the Department of Planning & Community

Development on September 11, 2023, by J. Walsh Corporation, Walpole, MA.

The properties are located in the Single Family IV Zoning District, off of Uncas Avenue Extension (Parcel ID 285-078-008 and 285-078-009). The applicant is proposing to construct two triplex units, one on each lot. The applicant is applying for two (2) Special Permits under Chapter 185 Attachment 7, Part 6.1: Residential multifamily or apartment use in the Single Family Residential IV District.

Please note: This will be your only written notice of this public hearing. Should the Planning Board vote to continue this Public Hearing, the date and time will be posted on the Planning Board’s website under Agendas.

Dean College Announces 2023-2024 Theatre and Dance Season

Dean College is proud to announce its new 2023-2024 performing arts season. Running from October to May, the lineup includes four theatre shows, four dance shows and multiple showcase performances featuring Dean College students in the School of the Arts and the Joan Phelps Palladino School of Dance. 

Season ticket packages and individual show tickets are now available online at at the Dean College Box Office. Packages include the Full Season Package (eight theatre and dance events), the Theatre Series Package (four events) and the Dance Series Package (four events).
