Take a walk in the "Meadowlands" - October 28
Saturday, October 28, at 10:30 AM, Alan Earls will be leading a walk through the fields and wetlands along Mine Brook in Franklin to assess potential public access points and existing trails on behalf of the Charles River Meadowlands Initiative.
We will meet at the end of Oak Street Extension (please park carefully so as not to impact neighbors) and depart, rain or shine, heading roughly south toward the former town sewage treatment facilities (now being redeveloped).
Depending on conditions we will either retrace our route or exit via White Ave., returning to our cars on foot. This is an opportunity to see this hidden open space gem and to contribute to efforts with town and federal authorities to improve access. Plan on a duration of approximately two hours.
PLEASE BE AWARE THERE ARE NO DEVELOPED TRAILS IN MOST PARTS OF THE PROPERTY. EXPECT MUD, WATER, BRAMBLES AND BRUSH AND USE TICK REPELLENT

FHS: "Help Keep Music Education Alive" - Nov 3
The Franklin High School music students are preparing for their participation in the Beatlemania concert being held at Franklin High School November 3 at 7:30 PM.
The music students will be performing back up instrumentation on a few songs with the national touring production of Beatlemania Stage Show. Students will perform on the songs “Yesterday” with the school’s orchestra; “Sgt. Pepper” with the marching band and “Yellow Submarine” with the chorus.
The concert is a benefit to offset some of the expenses for the school’s music department’s trip to Washington DC in the spring for a music festival and competition.
The concert is titled “Help Keep Music Education Alive” which benefits music education programs throughout New England.
The concert is a full professional production with big venue sound and lighting brought in to facilitate the concert experience. Paul Lococo event organizer said “The Franklin High School has a brand new state of the art auditorium and will be a nice place to stage such a production.”
The Beatlemania Stage Show is the complete Beatle’s experience with period costume changes and vintage Beatle’s instruments. The show will take you from the Beatle’s early years from the Ed Sullivan days to Sgt. Pepper’s Magical Mystery Tour and beyond.
Diane Plouffe, the Franklin High School Music Director said “This is a unique community event supporting the music students and a fun event for both the students and the community.”
“The show is educational for our students as well as they learn the music of the Beatle’s and get to perform in a professional production right here at Franklin High.” Stated Plouffe.
Tickets for the show are on sale at Purplepass.com and Shaw’s Market in Franklin

SEXT ED: A forum on teen sexting and changing the law - Oct 16
Please join us to discuss teen sexting- the harm, the recovery, and changing the law.
Our event will include a panel with
- Representative Jeffrey Roy from Franklin
- Franklin Police Officer Jason Reilly
- Dr. Elizabeth Englender, Director of the Massachusetts Aggression Reduction Center at Bridgewater State University
- Kristin Letendre, Director of Health and Physical Education at Franklin Public Schools
- Christopher Spillane, Franklin Police Department School Safety Officer
Representative Roy recently introduced Bill H.948 that would change the criminal process of charging teens as felony sex offenders. Instead, teens would undergo an educational diversion program. When prosecution is considered necessary, the offense will be considered a misdemeanor instead of a felony.
We will discuss the current situation in Franklin and other MetroWest towns, how parents can help their children, and the legal implications if a child is sexting.
We hope you can join us.
Monday, October 16 at 7 PM - 8:30 PM
Franklin High School
Tickets are free via Eventbrite

"THE ISSUE: Five medical marijuana dispensaries are now authorized to conduct home deliveries statewide.
THE IMPACT: Patient advocates say people with debilitating conditions who live far from a dispensary have been calling for delivery services.
Often facing long drives to the nearest medical marijuana dispensary, some patients with debilitating conditions are opting for home delivery.
“It’s something that patients say they really want,” said Nichole Snow, a Salem resident and president of the Massachusetts Patient Advocacy Alliance. “Many patients are homebound, really ill or don’t have a caregiver. A long trip is not practical because they’re in too much pain and don’t want to expose themselves to more illness.”Continue reading the article online (subscription may be required)

"Beekeepers, scientists and horticulturalists swarmed lawmakers Tuesday, bearing studies, anecdotes and dire warnings that a popular pesticide is killing off pollinators essential to the food supply, but a farm group warned their proposed cure might lead to worse outcomes for the bees.
Bees pollinate the key Bay State crops of apples, cranberries and corn, and pollinators have a role in about a third of the food that people eat, according to Rep. Carolyn Dykema, D-Holliston.
Scientific studies have found bees are put in danger by neonicotinoids, a class of pesticides that entomologist Richard Callahan said were developed from the addictive chemical found in tobacco and gained popularity in the early 1990s.
Legislation (H 2113) filed by Dykema would require people to be licensed or certified to use neonicotinoids. She said Maryland and Connecticut have passed legislation to restrict neonicotinoids and major retailers are limiting access to those products, too."

Girls Soccer = Franklin, 1 @ Canton, 4 – Final
"Just four minutes into Wednesday night’s game at World War II Veterans Memorial Field, Franklin opened the scoring, but instead of hanging its head and allowing the visiting Panthers to take control, Canton turned up the aggressiveness, pressured all over the pitch, and turned the game around.
Riley Duserick, Elisa Diletizia, and Lilah Sullivan each recorded a goal and an assist, as Canton stormed back to dominate Franklin, winning 4-1 to get back above .500 for the season.
“We know how to play soccer and we have good soccer players,” said Canton coach Kate Howarth. “If we come out with that mentality then we’re going to play games like this. If you have that passion and that drive and leaving it on the field then there’s no way you can lose. It’s not a lack of talent; it’s a lack of oomph.”Continue reading the game recap by Hockomock Sports.Com Managing Editor Josh Perry
