Economic Development Subcommittee gets an update on the Marketing and Branding efforts (video)

The Economic Development Subcommittee met as scheduled July 17, 2024 at 5:45 PM in Council Chambers. Three members were present (Frongillo, Chandler, Sheridan) and one absent (Hamblen).

Deputy Town Administrator Amy Frigulietti provided an update on the marketing and branding project to date as well as the draft RFP for the next step, hiring a consultant to do the work of creating a new town logo.

The Town of Franklin seal would remain in use for official documents but the new logo would consolidate and streamline all the other departmental communications efforts.

The Franklin TV video of the 27 minute meeting is available for replay ->   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNcdXFcX4Lg

Why are there multiple calendars?
There is a Cultural events calendar upon which other community events are layered to create the Community calendar.

Respectfully, the Library and Senior Center calendars are too full of events to include all their events so we tend to focus on the major events. Town and School meetings are also kept separate. Links for all the calendars are shared here:

Fallen Hero Recognition: Gerald M. Parmenter - World War II - July 17, 2024 - 9 AM

Memorial event today (7/17/24) at 9 AM on the Town Common Veterans Walkway to honor First Lieutenant Gerald M. Parmenter, U.S. Army Air Corps

This program will include the placing of a Memorial Wreath for the day, the playing of Taps, a salute from those present, and a reading of whatever history  may be available for that veteran.  This is a way of keeping the memory of that veteran alive.

Fallen Hero: First Lieutenant Gerald M. Parmenter, U.S. Army Air Corps
First Lieutenant Gerald M. Parmenter, son of Ernest and Maud Parmenter, was born on October 18, 1917. Gerald lived at 466 King Street with his parents and a twin brother. He attended the Franklin Public Schools and was graduated from Franklin High School in 1935 and from Hill College in Woonsocket in 1937. Gerald did accounting work at local businesses and was associated with his father at the Red Mount Poultry Farm here in Franklin.
Prior to the war Gerald, who was very enthusiastic about aviation, obtained his license as a civilian pilot. Gerald enlisted in the Army Air Corp in August of 1942 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1943 at Yuma, Arizona. First Lieutenant Parmenter served as a pilot in the air transport ferrying command, piloting planes built in this country to the British Government in Nassau.
First Lieutenant Gerald M. Parmenter died from injuries received in an air crash while in the line of duty near Ramsar, India in the Asiastic Theatre.
First Lieutenant Gerald M. Parmenter was 26 years old at the time of his death on July 17, 1944 while serving his country during WWII.

350 Mass Greater Franklin Node meeting Thursday, July 18 at 7 PM

Happy Hot July, everyone! Stay cool!

Our next 350 Mass Greater Franklin Node meeting is this Thursday, July 18!

It will be HYBRID: both by Zoom AND in person at First Universalist Society in Franklin, 262 Chestnut Street, Franklin, 7:00-9:00pm!

We're coming down to the wire for a climate bill as this legislative session ends July 31! The Senate came out with their strong version in late June and the House is supposed to submit theirs today.

Here's a photo from our Mass Power Forward march from Boston Common to the State House on Sunday:
WE CHALKED THE SIDEWALK WITH MESSAGES TO OUR LEGISLATORS TO SEE MONDAY!

WE CHALKED THE SIDEWALK WITH MESSAGES
WE CHALKED THE SIDEWALK WITH MESSAGES

We'll focus on what the rest of the legislative process is and what important actions we can take before the end of the session in two weeks, ESPECIALLY as Rep. Jeff Roy is so critical to the future of this climate bill as the House Chair of the Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy Committee (TUE) and a necessary member of the Joint Conference Committee.

Come learn what you can do!

THESE LAST TWO WEEKS ARE WHEN THE RUBBER MEETS THE ROAD IN A SPRINT TO THE FINISH, FOLKS! We must implement phasing out gas, and facilitate fair siting and permitting for electrical transmission infrastructure to get off gas, and pass other major climate actions this legislative session. TIME IS UP!

For more news about ongoing and upcoming events, please sign up for the Climate Weekly email. Also, check out upcoming events on the 350 Mass website.

WE NEED YOUR VOICES TO PUSH FOR A STRONG BILL! JOIN US!

With gratitude,

Node Co-coordinators
Carolyn Barthel and Steve Derdiarian

Changes To Past Relevant Work and Disability Determinations

Via Social Security Administration:

"In general, Social Security finds adult applicants to be disabled only if they have a severe medical condition that either prevents them from doing any substantial work for at least 1 year or is expected to result in death.

Based on this strict definition of disability for both SSDI and SSI, it’s not surprising that Social Security’s disability application focuses on a person’s illnesses and injuries, limitations, treatment, and work history.

But recalling the details of 15 years of employment – job titles, duties, dates, etc. – can be a major challenge. At the Urban Justice Center, our clients often struggle to provide accurate information from their past. To improve their work history narrative while their disability application is pending, we routinely help them to update and clarify information about their previous jobs."
