Why are there multiple calendars?
Respectfully, the Library and Senior Center calendars are too full of events to include all their events so we tend to focus on the major events. Town and School meetings are also kept separate. Links for all the calendars are shared here:

Franklin Food Pantry: Best wishes for a joyous holiday season and a Happy New Year!

We are excited to share that since the beginning of December, The Pantry has provided more than 450 holiday meals to individuals and families seeking food assistance.

Franklin Food Pantry: Best wishes for a joyous holiday season and a Happy New Year!
Franklin Food Pantry
This amount surpasses the number of holiday meals distributed in all of December 2023. Our supporters have worked tirelessly to provide food to those who are experiencing food insecurity.  We are grateful for our community’s generosity and goodwill.

The Pantry will be closed to clients December 23, 2024, and reopen for indoor shopping on January 2, 2025, at 11 AM. A limited number of staff and volunteers will be in the building during this time to deep clean The Pantry, take inventory, and restock.

We have communicated the information to clients through email, text messages, social media, our website, and outgoing phone message, and information on additional food resources is posted on our website: https://bit.ly/4fqtBwn

Best wishes for a joyous holiday season and a Happy New Year!

Franklin TV: Scurrying . . . The storm before the calm?

by Pete Fasciano, Executive Director 12/22/2024

Silent night. Holy night.
All is calm. All is bright.
Calm? Nope. Not just yet.
There must and will be that last minute shopping foray. ( – Guilty as charged.)

Scurrying, scrambling. Not the time for ambling. We take on this mercantile madness every year. It’s personally– socially– familially– obligatory. It’s a thing.

And what to buy for people who have much of what they need and want? A token? A bauble? An ill-fit that will likely end up in – closet oblivion?

That said – help is on the way.

For many joyful years my extended family has tamed Christmas gifting with a classic tradition – the Yankee Swap.

Each participant contributes one gift. Hmmm – what could this be? Who knows? (The gift box size, heft and fancy wrapping can be deceptive.)
Each participant pulls a number from a bowl/hat/Christmas stocking. (We usually have 16-20 Yankee gifters. Gift cost is in the $20-$30 range.) Then – one-by-one-by-number – each participant pulls a gift from the pile. Gifts may be ‘naughty or nice’. Open the gift. (drumroll…) Boom!
Hilarity ensues.
Each participant then opts to keep the pulled gift or swap it for someone else’s. Hilarity ensues.
The participant who pulled number 1 has the final/ultimate keep/swap choice. Hilarity ensues.

It’s friends and family. It’s merry. It’s joyful. And – isn’t that the point? And as for all that scurrying and shopping you didn’t have to do?

Sleep in heavenly peace, my friend. Sleep in heavenly peace.
And – as always –
Thank you for watching.
Thank you for listening to wfpr●fm.

Boston Globe: "Senate passes Social Security benefits boost for many public service retirees"

"The Senate passed legislation early Saturday to boost Social Security payments for millions of people, pushing a longtime priority for former public employees through Congress in one of its last acts for the year.

The bipartisan bill, which next heads to President Joe Biden, will eliminate longtime reductions to Social Security benefits for nearly 3 million people who receive pensions from work in federal, state and local government, or public service jobs like teachers, firefighters and police officers. Advocates say the Social Security Fairness Act rights a decades-old disparity, though it will also put further strain on Social Security Trust Funds.

The legislation has been decades in the making but the push to pass it came together in the final weeks — and was completed in the final minutes — that lawmakers were in Washington before Congress resets next year. All Senate Democrats, as well as 27 Republicans, voted for the bill, giving it a final tally of 76-20."
