Via Instagram, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Winter sports competition for Franklin High School on Friday, December 26, 2025

Girls Basketball = Franklin, 44 @ Lake Region (ME), 30 – Final 

– Franklin put together an impressive defensive performance to secure its first win of the season. After struggling in first quarters through the opening four games of the season, Franklin scored 22 points in the first to earn a win over Lake Region. Sophia Sacramone scored five points and hit one of Franklin’s four threes in the first. Lila Reagan, Ava Bonney, and freshman Chloe Gordon also knocked down shots from distance to help the Panthers jump out to a 22-5 lead. Bonney sank a second three in the second quarter, but it was Franklin’s lone basket of the quarter. Franklin held Lake Region to just two points to make sure it went into the break with the lead. Gordon, Tessah Rodrigues, and Liz Dumais each sank threes in the third as the Panthers extended their lead to 38-15 going to the final eight minutes. Lake Region came back in the fourth with three triples and 15 points. Franklin went without a field goal in the fourth, but went 6-of-8 at the line and sealed the victory.

Franklin vs. Weymouth Food Pantries Face Off in "SOUPer Bowl 2026" Soup Drive

The Franklin Food Pantry is gearing up to defend its title as SOUPer Bowl Champion against the Weymouth Food Pantry in the highly anticipated SOUPer Bowl 2026 canned soup competition.

The two pantries are asking their communities to donate cans of soup starting January 8, 2026. The pantry that receives the most soup by February 8, 2026, will be named SOUPer Bowl Champ 2026.

The Franklin Food Pantry and Weymouth Food Pantry previously faced off in 2025. The competition resulted in a combined total of 4,967 cans of soup, with Franklin edging out the win by a mere 205 cans. While SOUPer Bowl 2026 is a friendly, spirited competition, the stakes are profoundly serious. Hunger in Massachusetts is reaching crisis levels, with a staggering 1 in 3 people experiencing food insecurity. This challenge will help stock the shelves in both pantries and combat the skyrocketing hunger in our communities. Here's how to get in on the game and support your pantry:

• What: SOUPer Bowl 2026 (Canned Soup Drive)
• Who: Franklin Food Pantry vs. Weymouth Food Pantry
• When: January 8 to February 8, 2026

Crackdowns Have No Criminal Record

"The deployments in major cities as part of President Trump’s immigration crackdown have led to thousands of arrests. But they have been less effective at apprehending immigrants with a criminal record than more routine operations elsewhere, new data shows.

Less than 30% of the people arrested in any of these operations had been convicted of a crime, a New York Times analysis of the data shows, and a very small share had been convicted of a violent crime. The most common non-violent convictions were for driving under the influence and other traffic offenses.

The operations have upended life for many residents and prompted protests and backlash. Local leaders say they have done little to make their cities safer.
