Both FHS field hockey & volleyball (video) teams win on Wednesday to advance to final 8

** Volleyball
Division 1 = #25 Belmont, 0 @ #9 Franklin, 3 – Final
– Belmont came in riding the momentum of its big upset of Bishop Feehan but the Panthers quickly took the lead in the first set and never looked back for the 3-0 sweep (25-13, 25-12, 25-22). It was a balanced approach at the net for Franklin highlighted by eight kills from Olivia Alberti (seven digs, four blocks), seven kills from Emerson Delleo, and six kills from Makayla Kuykendall (13 digs, four aces). Faith Edgehille (22 digs) helped set the tone defensively while Brooke Daniels (20 assists) spread it around offensively. Franklin will travel to top-seeded Newton North (21-1) on Friday at 6:00.

** Field Hockey
Division 1 = #10 Wachusett, 1 @ #7 Franklin, 6 – Final
– Franklin built its lead over the course of the game with the first five goals of the contest to secure an impressive 6-1 verdict against Wachusett. Raena Crandall set up Addi Weiss for the lone goal of the first quarter and then tacked on a late goal in the second to help the Panthers stake a 2-0 lead at the break. Haley Wernig netted her 100th career goal to help Franklin extend its lead less than five minutes into the second half and Jossie Camp set up Crandall for Franklin’s fourth with a minute left in the third. Weiss got her second early in the final frame, and after Wachusett finally broke through at the midway point of the fourth, the Panthers responded within two minutes when Penelope Brady scored on an assist from Caydence Canavan. Devon Barry had a terrific game in net for Franklin with 13 saves to earn the win. “This was an amazing team effort and win for Franklin,” said FHS head coach Michelle Hess. #7 Franklin will travel to #2 Walpole on Saturday at 2:30 in a D1 state quarterfinal matchup.
