FHS girls lacrosse win to continue to advance in playoffs

Via HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the FHS spring sports playoff action on Thursday: 

Girls Lacrosse - Division 1 = #27 Newton North, 4 @ #6 Franklin, 17 – Final 

– Franklin dominated the first half to the tune of a double digit lead and never looked back in a win over visiting Newton North. The Panthers were on a roll offensively from the start while only surrendering one first half goal, building an 11-1 advantage by halftime. Stella Regan paced the offense with three goals and three assists, adding eight draw controls as well. Kate O’Rourke added four draw controls to go with four goals and two assists, Katie Peterson scored three goals with one helper, and Kaitlyn Carney scored four times. Jackie O’Neil, Maura Cogavin, and Katie Ryan each scored once in the win, and both Payten Crandall and Sophia Sacchetti played well defensively in front of Brigid Earley (five saves)

Shop for Christmas in June? Why not, it is the new Ladybug ornament!

This year's Christmas Ornament is available at the Franklin Historical Museum Gift Shop. In keeping with the popular Ladybug theme, the ornament is adorned with adorable ladybugs just in time for the Ladybug Trail dedication. 

The museum will be open special hours Friday June 10th for the annual Strawberry Stroll 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Saturday 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM and Sunday 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM. Come in and be one of the first to own this beautiful ornament. 

The museum gift shop is run by the Friends of the Franklin Historical Museum.

Nonprofit going after the online advertising revenue to stop disinformation online sets new target

An internet search result is provided free because the provider gets ad revenue from other sources. By following the money in the online advertising world, this nonprofit aims to take the advertising dollars out of the disinformation revenue streams.  

"A nonprofit aiming to defund disinformation online that has taken money out of the pockets of several prominent far-right websites now has its sights set on its most formidable target yet: Fox News. 

The group, Check My Ads, is hoping the success it has had in stripping advertising dollars from right-wing provocateurs including Steve Bannon, Glenn Beck and Dan Bongino will give it momentum as it attempts to confront a powerful media empire. 

On Thursday, the outfit announced a new campaign directed at Fox's website and its popular YouTube channel calling on the public to pressure online ad exchanges to stop doing business with Fox. It comes just as the House committee investigating the Capitol riots kicks off a series of hearings focused on violence that unfolded on Jan 6."

"After decades of activism, false starts, and failed efforts, advocates celebrated Thursday as a bill that allows driver’s licenses for residents without legal immigration status finally became law.

Massachusetts legislators voted to override a veto from Governor Charlie Baker and made official a law backed by law enforcement groups, immigrant rights advocates, and insurance companies. It will take effect next summer."

LiveARTS String Quartet Concert - June 12 - 3 PM

The LiveARTS Concert Series concludes its season with a performance by the acclaimed LiveARTS String Quartet in a program of Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Jessie Montgomery on Sunday, June 12 at 3:00 PM at the Meetinghouse of the First Universalist Society, located at 262 Chestnut Street in Franklin, MA.

The LiveARTS String Quartet is comprised of musicians Gregory Vitale and Katherine Winterstein, violins, Donald Krishnaswami, viola and Jan Müller-Szeraws, cello. The quartet has performed together for over a decade while leading active solo, chamber, and orchestral careers.

This program will include Beethoven’s String Quartet in C Major, Op. 59, Mendelssohn’s String Quartet in D Major, Op. 44, and music by acclaimed composer Jessie Montgomery – Source Code (2013) and Strum (2006).

Now in its nineteenth season, the LiveARTS concert series continues its mission of bringing outstanding artists into the community and introducing great music to area students.

Tickets for this performance are $25 for adults and free for students 18 and under. Tickets are available at the door or can be purchased in advance at liveartsma.org.

LiveARTS is supported in part by grants from the Bellingham, Franklin, Holliston, Mansfield, Mendon, Norfolk, North Attleboro, and Norton cultural councils, local agencies which are supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
