Walking a labyrinth and diamond painting, tools for the toolbox to help with mental health (audio)

FM #1071 = This is the Franklin Matters radio show, number 1071 in the series.

This shares my conversation with Rick Rollingcross. We had our conversation in the Franklin TV Studio on September 21, 2023.

Rick provides his short story, and as a retired psychologist advocates for additional tools in the toolkit to deal with time away from screens. He has a regular session at the Senior Center for “diamond painting” which he describes during our talk. He also advocates for walking a labyrinth.

Sessions on diamond painting are available through Tri-County Continuing Education.

Our conversation runs about 16 minutes. Let’s listen to my conversation with Rick recorded Sep 21, 2023

Update: As this was prepared for publication, Rick added this update on his foundation:
"The Rollingcross Foundation has been given state and federal permission to operate as a non profit and I am in the process of setting up its account. Understanding that the school year has been off to a chaotic start with the unexpected arrival of 30 migrant students i waited until October before reaching out again to the schools. I have sent a letter with research that I hope will give us some traction to Assistant Superintendent Paula Marano"

#LOVEfranklin: quick update RE: the emergency shelter in Franklin

To those who #LOVEfranklin:

Here’s your quick update RE: the emergency shelter in Franklin. A few more families have arrived. The Franklin Interfaith Council (FIC) is beginning to think long-term hospitality and distribution of donations.

All persons placed at the shelter are being signed up for SNAP benefits, Mass Health, and school quickly. The Town staff has worked hard to hone this process and it is working smoothly.

As people are signed up for essential services, our focus is shifting to welcome, hospitality, and community—social well-being. We are continuing to organize volunteers for an after-school program. Contact Rev. Kathy McAdams for details.

Also in the works from the FIC are Intake/Hospitality bags (to meet the   immediate needs of people when they arrive), a discretionary fund for   transportation via GATRA, and a weekly communal meal. We’ll release more
information about these opportunities once details are firmed up and we
get the final go-ahead from the town.

Attached to this email you will find the updated donation/volunteer flyer (.pdf and .jpeg versions).

NOTE: we’ve provided more details about where to drop off donations as there has been some confusion. Clothing can be dropped off on the back porch of the parsonage of Franklin Federated Church (183 Main Street); and, for those who don’t know, St. Rocco Square is the side entrance (off of Church Street) to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Thank you for being part of this long-term effort to support the evolving needs of those being placed in the Emergency Shelter in Franklin!

Feel free to share this information; and, if others would like to be added to this distribution list, have them email  info@franklininterfaith.org.

Peace
Jacob

New England Treatment Access, NTEA, based here in Franklin is the Largest of the Medical Cannabis Companies in Massachusetts via Boston Business Journal.
"Information for this list was obtained from business representatives, and, in some cases, was obtained from data provided by the state's Cannabis Control Commission. That data is subject to change. All employees working in cannabis companies must register as an agent with the state. A single employee can have multiple agent registrations across licenses and locations - which is what the list's ranking metric reflects."
