Commend a Franklin (MA) Police Officer

Frequently, many of our officers exceed the expectations of the public by providing exceptional service that surpasses the norm. If you observe a Franklin police officer performing their duties in a manner that you think is exceptional and reflects favorably upon the officer and the Franklin Police Department, then please let us know about it.

Officers take great pride in being recognized by members of the community when they have exceptionally performed their duties. Also, officers who receive such praise from the citizens realize that their hard work is appreciated. We want to hear from you!

Boston Globe: "Median home sale prices have risen across Mass. since 2018"

"It’s no secret that home prices have soared to new heights in Greater Boston. But most of the towns in Massachusetts that have seen the fastest rise in home prices in recent years aren’t actually inside Route 128.

Town-by-town median home sale price data provided by The Warren Group, a real estate information firm, offer a bird’s eye view of recent trends. The data show that in the past five years, prices have risen the most in towns outside Greater Boston.

Just west of Worcester, Spencer saw its median home sale price go from $225,000 in 2018 to $407,500 in 2023 — an 81 percent increase. The median price in nearby Charlton went from $284,900 to $499,950 over the same time period, up about 75 percent. The dataset includes only towns where there have been 25 or more transactions in 2023."

Why it’s not rude to ignore “hi, how are you?” text messages from strangers

Consumer Alerts from the Federal Trade Commission

By Gema de las Heras

A text message from an unknown number that simply says: hi, how are you? seems harmless.

Your first instinct might be to respond to see if it's someone you know. Or maybe tell them they made a mistake. But it's best to ignore these type of text messages.

Scammers are using this tactic as a conversation starter, so don't text back. If you do, here's what happens next.

Why are there multiple calendars?
There is a Cultural events calendar upon which other community events are layered to create the Community calendar.

Respectfully, the Library and Senior Center calendars are too full of events to include all their events so we tend to focus on the major events. Town and School meetings are also kept separate. Links for all the calendars are shared here:

The Cultural calendar displays only the cultural events

Find the full Community event calendar  https://bit.ly/FranklinCommunityCalendar

If you have an event to add to the calendar, you can use the form to submit it for publication:  https://bit.ly/Submit2Calendar

Sports & bus fee increases contingent upon the outcome of the Override scheduled for June 11

From Franklin Public Schools:
"Dear FHS families,

As we get ready for the next school year, we want to update you on potential fee increases so that you can plan accordingly. While the final decisions still need to be made by the School Committee, we want all families to be informed. Attached, you will find the current listing of fees for athletics by sport and the proposed fee increases.

You will also see fee proposals for Transportation and ECDC. The implementation of fee increases is contingent upon the outcome of the Override Ballot election in June and the School Committee vote and is identified as such (except ECDC fees, which will increase regardless of the outcome of the override).

Additionally, here is a link to a brief survey regarding fee increases.  (For FHS Families -> https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSejBgnpOex2VgatM-Vt8kA1DuDC1IiPRNGJGoIg1j0kc3aoYw/viewform)

Sincerely,

FM #1225 = This is the Franklin Matters radio show, number 1225 in the series.

This session of the radio show shares my conversation with Ted McIntyre, Franklin resident and climate activist. We met to record via the Zoom conference bridge on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.

We continued making sense of climate by working our way from Memorial Day weekend, the start of summer, and the hurricane season which is possible to be one of the most active. The warmth of the Atlantic Ocean is a key contributor to hurricane development.

This discussion continues our journey understanding the MA roadmap toward net zero and while it helps me “make sense of climate”, we hope it helps with your understanding as well.

If you have climate questions or Franklin specific climate questions, send them in and we’ll try to answer them in a future session.

The conversation runs about 32 minutes. Let’s listen to my conversation with Ted.

Franklin Food Pantry celebrates their One Year Anniversary at 341 West Central St

From the Franklin Food Pantry:
"Happy one year anniversary!
That’s right - it’s been one year since we moved to 341 W. Central St.! We are grateful to the Franklin community and everyone who has supported our mission for more than 30 years.
We have come so far but there is more work to be done – and the best way to celebrate with us is to support us!
Please make a monetary contribution to The Panty. No amount is too small (or too big!) and will make a lasting impact in strengthening our community.
Thank you, Franklin!!!
