Special Update: Beaver Street Interceptor Project - BJs area delays Thu/Fri this week

BSI Construction Update for Thursday (10/3) and Friday (10/4):
The construction crew will be moving over to working on West Central St. at the entrance to BJ's Wholesale Club between the hours of 7AM-4PM. The entrance to BJ's will be open in both directions but please follow posted signs and police details for directions.
At the Franklin Recreation Center, the construction of the new Beaver Street Interceptor Pump Station will continue with excavation to get the final grade depth for the pump station foundation.

Boys Soccer = Canton, 0 @ Franklin, 5 – Final
– Franklin scored less than two minutes into the game and went on to land an emphatic 5-0 win over Canton, snapping a brief two-game winless stretch for the Panthers. Senior Wyatt Herndon was the first to a rebound after a shot from Garrett Scagliarini was pushed aside as the Panthers grabbed a 1-0 win in the 2nd minute. Franklin extended its lead to 3-0 by halftime as Andre Missagia (from Jibreel Brahimi) scored in the 24th minute and Herndon (from Scagliarini) netted another in the 32nd minute. The hosts put any hopes of a Canton comeback away less than a minute into the second half when Jason Proenca crashed in front after Gabe Terry knocked down a long throw from Josh Rappa. It was Rappa who capped the scoring just five minutes later, getting on the end of Scagliarini’s third assist of the net on a low cross to the back post.

Girls Soccer = Franklin, 1 @ Canton, 0 – Final
Volleyball = Sharon, 0 @ Franklin, 3 – Final
– A balanced offensive attack led Franklin to a straight set win over visiting Sharon, 3-0. Makayla Kuykendall (15 digs) and Emerson Delleo (seven aces) both recorded nine kills in the win, Olivia Alberti notched six kills, and Olivia Caruso dished out 13 assists in the win.
Field Hockey = Franklin, 12 @ Sharon, 0 – Final
– Holding a 1-0 lead after the first 15 minutes, Franklin erupted for four goals in the second and third frames to get a big win on the grass in Sharon. Ella Marzullo (two assists) and Haley Wernig (one assist) each had a hat trick in the win while Maddie O’Brien tacked on two goals for the Panthers.
Boys Cross Country = Franklin, 20 @ Taunton, 42 – Final
– Taunton sophomore Jordan Trucchi won the first dual meet of his career in a time of 17:44, but Franklin’s depth won the day as they secured the next six spots. The Panthers were led by senior Alex Fiorvanti (17:52). Next to score for Franklin were senior Jack Halter (18:20), junior Adam Peng (18:44), junior Tucker Morin (18:52), sophomore Nick Mitchell (18:58) and freshman Sawyer Laing (18:58). Franklin improves its record to 3-1.
Girls Cross Country = Franklin, 20 @ Taunton, 39 – Final
– The Panthers claimed three of the top four spots and five of the top seven to secure a win on the road at Taunton High. Victoria Courtright-Lim was at the head of the front pack, crossing in at 21:39 for the individual victory. Teammate Fiona Morrison (21:43) was right behind follow by Taunton’s Emersyn DePonte, who was coming off a win at the MSTCA Bay State Invitational over the weekend. Carli Walbert (22:03) was fourth, Emma Pruitt (22:59) took sixth, and Annabelle Santiago (23:13) was seventh overall. Taunton’s Madison Dias clocked in at 22:19 to take fifth overall.
Golf = Milford, 163 @ Franklin, 144 – Final
– The Panthers inched closer to clinching at least a share of the Kelley-Rex title with an impressive win at home, taking down visiting Milford, 144-163. Six of the eight Franklin golfers in the lineup came in under 40 on the day, led by a one-under-par medalist round from senior Liam Lewandowski, who finished at 34 for the round. Jack Nelson added a 35, Caden Sullivan chipped in with a 36, and Ben Burgess, Tyler Perlman, and Carter Balducci each shot a 39. Milford’s David Fleming had a team-low round of 38 and Zach Hipolito came in at 39 for the day.

Register for the 13th Annual Franklin Turkey Trot taking place on Thanksgiving Morning, Thursday, November 28, 2024, at 8 AM. The family-friendly event starts and ends at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 91 Jordan Rd., Franklin, Massachusetts and is for individuals of all ages and abilities.

Registration increases to $30 per person starting October 13, 2024. Children aged 5 and under run for free (but do not receive a bib). Race shirts are available for purchase online through October 30, 2024, or in-person at bib pick-up and on race day (while supplies last).

GoFundMe: Support Savannah's Journey with a Diabetic Alert Dog
My daughter Savannah was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when she was three years old. I didn’t know much about this new diagnosis, but soon became aware of the challenges and impacts this diagnosis would have on our lives. We spent several days and nights in the hospital. Our hospital stay was a crash course on how to manage Diabetes. I was initially overwhelmed and the simple ease of just napping on the couch with Savannah was no longer. I quickly learned that Diabetes requires 24/7 monitoring. Five years later, Savannah and I have a good routine but still each day presents with challenges.
Today, Savannah is a caring, active, resilient almost 8 year old. She loves gymnastics, playing outside, swimming and is very active in sports. Savannah loves to swim and is constantly losing a signal on her CGM which makes this activity very challenging. We work everyday to not allow Diabetes to define her. However, Type 1 Diabetes impacts her life everyday. There are decisions every hour of every day, in order to keep her blood sugar in a healthy range. Savannah's blood sugar must be monitored 24/7, including throughout the night.

Thanks to the help of my State Representative, Marcus Vaughn and his staff, I was put in touch with Diabetic Alert Dogs Of America. Savannah was accepted into a service dog program! I quickly learned the fees (to have the dog fully trained and certified) is more than I can handle alone, so I am moving out of my comfort zone and asking for help.
After months of researching, I know that having a Diabetic alert dog will benefit Savannah’s life in so many ways! A Service Dog will alert to lows and highs, increasing her safety and relieving some of the burden and worry that I experience. Savannah cannot attend play dates without me. She has never been to a sleepover, not even with family. She cannot attend just any summer camp. She must wear a fanny pack with her devices inside so her sugar is monitored at all times. We haven't had much snow in MA for sometime, but she couldn't play in the snow a couple of years ago without her sugar crashing from the energy it took to truck through the snow to find the perfect sledding spot.
It will be wonderful for Savannah to enjoy a more (normal) childhood like her cousins and peers. I will feel safer at night with the (backup) support of her dog. Having Diabetes can feel lonely. I worry far too often about the added stress this diagnosis puts on her. In addition to helping keep her safe, I know that a service dog will provide Savannah with a feeling of security, friendship, and emotional support.
It is very uncomfortable to ask for help, but having a child with a permanent, life threatening condition has taught me a lot and I am humbly taking on this journey to ask for help for Savannah to meet her Diabetic Alert Dog.
