FHS girls tennis and softball teams top Oliver Ames on Monday

Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Spring sports competition for Franklin High School on Monday, March 31, 2025

Baseball = Oliver Ames, 2 @ Franklin, 1 – Final
Junior AJ Baroncelli, senior Andrew Whiteside, and junior Jack Devonshire combined to limit Franklin to just one run on two hits and five walks to lead Oliver Ames to a win over the Panthers in the season opener for the second straight year. Baroncelli had a no-hitter through five innings and Oliver Ames came through with its lone damage on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth. Senior Drew Hall ripped a two-out, two-run double to left to score junior Ryan Johnson (HBP) and Thomas Whiteside (walk) to put the Tigers ahead 2-0. Baroncelli retired the first two batters of the sixth but Ryan Connelly was hit by a pitch and junior Jack Sullivan came through with the Panthers’ first hit, an RBI double to center to cut the deficit in half. Andrew Whiteside came in relief and induced a grounder to strand the tying run at third. Freshman Patrick Luizzi led off the bottom of the seventh with a single and courtesy runner James Bruso got to second off a sacrifice from sophomore Roman Caccavelli but Devonshire got a fly ball to center and grabbed a popup himself to get the save and close out the win. Junior DJ Silverstein pitched well for the Panthers, allowing one run on two hits and three walks, striking out four in 5.1 innings. Franklin sophomore Owen Lewis tossed a scoreless seventh inning with three strikeouts.

Softball = Franklin, 10 @ Oliver Ames, 1 – Final
Oliver Ames plated a run in the bottom half of the third inning to make it a one-run game but Franklin answered with four runs in the top of the fourth and scored in each of the next three innings to secure a win on the road over the Tigers. The Panthers built a 2-0 lead with a run in the first (Sarah Boozang RBI single) and a run in the third (Ciara O’Brien RBI double) but the Tigers got back into the game when sophomore Katie Berg led off the bottom half with a single, stole second, and came all the way home on an RBI single from senior Devon Morris. Junior Sophia Sacramone smacked a two-run triple in the top of the fourth and Boozang (3-for-3, three RBI, two runs) followed by sending the first pitch of the next at-bat over the left field fence to increase Franklin’s lead to 6-1. Addi Weiss added an RBI double in the sixth and O’Brien drove in one more in the seventh. Sacramone earned the win in the circle, allowing one run on three hits and one walk, striking out four in four innings. O’Brien tossed three shutout innings in relief, striking out six.

The all-senior tandem of Brooke Daniels and Sydney Tolonen overcame a one-set deficit to prevail 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 at first doubles in a great battle with OA seniors Ava Barth and Emily Beaulieu. Register O’Donnell Promotes Mortgage Assignment Legislation

With April being designated National Fair Housing Month, Norfolk County Register of Deeds William P. O’Donnell today reaffirmed his support for Senate Bill 1030, an Act to increase transparency in the Massachusetts land record systems to protect the property rights of homeowners and businesses.

SB1030 was filed by Senator Michael D. Brady of Brockton on January 7, 2025, in the Massachusetts State Senate and was Referred to the Joint Committee on Judiciary.

If enacted, this legislation will eliminate the possibility that a homeowner may not know who the holder of their mortgage is because an assignment was not recorded. Currently, if homeowners are not aware who holds their mortgage, coupled with banks having gone out of business or merged, the homeowners must then contact the State’s Division of Banks and Banking in an attempt to track down who actually held the homeowner’s mortgage. This legislation would make assignments of residential mortgages more transparent for the consumer.

“This legislation would require that when banks transfer or assign their residential mortgages to a different lending institution then that assignment would be required to be recorded with the relevant Massachusetts Registry of Deeds office within 30 days of its execution,” noted Norfolk County Register of Deeds William P. O’Donnell.

The bill also creates a more level playing field between banks especially smaller community banks that record residential mortgage assignments and other banks that do not. It would also curtail the avoidance of paying recording fees by the lending institutions, which now results in the loss of needed revenue. This bill also implements on the Recorded Land side of the Massachusetts Registries of Deeds the procedure that takes place on the Registered Land side of Massachusetts Registries of Deeds.

Register O’Donnell stated, “I want to express my appreciation to Senator Michael D. Brady for filing this legislation. If this legislation becomes law it would help homeowners find out if their mortgage has been assigned to another party in a very timely manner. Also with this information available on-line it would be easier and more transparent for the homeowner to make sure they get this mortgage assignment information.”

The next step in the legislative process for SB1030 is for the Joint Committee on Judiciary to give the bill its initial review and recommendation. House and Senate co-sponsoring may continue until the measure is reported by the initial committee.

Register O’Donnell concluded, “It makes a great deal of sense to require residential mortgage assignments to be filed at the Registry of Deeds. After all, recording and storing land related documents for real estate transactions is something that has been done at the Norfolk County Registry of Deeds since 1793. Presently, the Registry maintains over 13.1 million land related documents.”

Another first for Town of Franklin with implementation of Art Pharmacy

"The Town of Franklin recently became the first municipality in the United States to invest in a new, innovative tool to combat the ongoing impacts of the opioid crisis: Arts Prescriptions, the practice of referring patients to creative experiences such as music, visual arts, dance, and theater.

Funded through the Town’s opioid settlement funds, their Arts Prescriptions initiative is designed to support substance use prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery efforts within the community.

Arts Prescription is a proven tool for improving mental health and fostering resilience, and since 2020 Mass Cultural Council has been investing in and developing cross-sector partnerships to establish Arts Prescriptions in the Commonwealth."
