"By releasing the spring schedule now it provides people with advance notice to put these dates on their calendars," noted the Register.    Although, Registry staff cannot provide legal advice, they will be on hand along with the Register, to answer basic questions, transport documents for recording and assist in the filling out of a Declaration of Homestead form that provides for limited protection against the forced sale of an individual's primary residence to satisfy unsecured debt up to $500,000. They will also assist a person in signing-up for the new Consumer Notification Program that alerts a homeowner when a transaction has been made against their property to alert them against potential cases of fraud.    Additionally, there will be on-site work stations that can provide real-time status of your mortgage discharge, print out a copy of your deed and provide a demonstration on how the Registry's On-Line Land Records Database works. No appointment is necessary. Furthermore, Register O'Donnell is also available to speak to the membership of any of the professional or community organizations within Norfolk County. "The Franklin Police Department is accepting applications for academy-trained patrol officers. 

Applicants must be graduates of the Massachusetts Police Training Committee (MPTC) Police Academy, or have experience in law enforcement or a similar field. 

Candidates must have an associate’s degree or an honorable discharge from the military or two years of good standing service to be considered for the position. If a candidate is hired based on military experience they will have 42 months to receive an associate’s degree. The deadline to apply is March 1."

“I ended up here for a reason"

Josh Perry, Managing Editor of HockomockSports.com, provides a nice write up on former FHS basketball player Alicia Kutil.

"Five years ago, former Franklin High standout Alicia Kutil nearly stepped away from her dream of playing college basketball when she transferred from the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va. to UMass Amherst. In search of the right fit for her personally, Kutil’s basketball career was given a second chance by UMass Dartmouth, which had recruited her during her time at Franklin. 

Just two weeks ago, Kutil, now a senior captain for the Corsairs, took a cross-court pass and fired up a three-pointer from the left wing in the final minute of a comfortable win against Little east Conference (LEC) rival Eastern Connecticut. With that three, Kutil became the all-time leading scorer in the program’s history. 

Not every path to success is a straight line. 

“It’s an amazing feeling,” said Kutil in a phone conversation the day before UMass Dartmouth faced Eastern Conn. in the LEC semifinal. “I’m still kind of in shock about. On senior night they talked about it before me and my family walked out and I think that’s when it hit me. It’s crazy! I really never thought in a million years that would be me.”

Franklin Historical Museum: Blizzard of '78 - March 11

Our next speaker in the Franklin Historical Museum’s Second Sunday Speaker Series will be Alan Earls. Local historian and author, Earls will discuss the Blizzard of ’78. 

The historic storm had a devastating impact that is vividly remembered to this day by anyone who lived through it. Earls’ presentation will cover the impact, the details, the stories and the devastation of the famed Blizzard of ’78. 

The presentation is scheduled for Sunday March 11 and begins at 1:15 PM. The first speaker in the Series, Paul Compton drew a standing room only crowd in February as he discussed Saving Franklin from the Wrecking Ball.
