Here at Franklin Matters, we would like to encourage shopping locally during the upcoming holiday season.  Over the next few weeks, we plan to feature a variety of local establishments to highlight some of the wonderful gift options they can offer just a short distance away.  Avoid the crowds, avoid the parking scramble, and support your local shop owners.   

Pour Richard’s Wine & Spirits

Gift giving, home cooked meals and the special pairing of a fine wine or spirit epitomize the traditions for many this time of year.   This is why today we would like to highlight POUR RICHARD’S WINE & SPIRITS at their new location at 835 West Central Street #2 Franklin. They are currently celebrating their 10 year Anniversary serving the Franklin community. 

“Never Drink Ordinary” is their motto and I can see why.  As I entered the store, I immediately was greeted with the warm presence of the owner Ann Williams.  I quickly recognized the unique well-edited selection of wines, craft beers, ciders, and spirits that were available. 

With a long-standing experience in the beverage industry, Ann worked with Blackbutton Distilling to create a Pour Richards private label bespoke Gin.  This Gin was formulated with nothing added or subtracted, no sugar or cornstarch were added which lends to a rich spirit.   

A second Pour Richards blend included the Mad River Double Barrel Rum created in bourbon barrels, a third called the Hill Rock Bourbon Whiskey and a fourth, Ladies Choice Bourbon Whiskey. 

Pour Richards provides a highly personalized service.  The owner makes an effort to know all customers names and loves to provide suggestions to meet personal tastes. 

With advance notice the store is more than happy to create custom gift baskets where they can curate suggestions or fulfill any specific spirit requests you may have for your recipient.

Along with gift baskets, curated 3 or 6 pack of craft beers, cases of wine and tasting kits of various spirits can be packaged. To top off this personalized service, keep in mind that curbside pickup is available to expedite your purchases quickly during this hurried season.

Memory Café this Wednesday Nov 16 at 1 PM features music with Alex Connolly

The Franklin Senior Center invites you to join us this Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 1 PM for our "Where's The Toast" Memory Café.  Memory Cafes are safe and welcoming spaces for those with memory loss, their families and caregivers. Alex Connolly will be entertaining us with songs we know and love.

Franklin, MA: Tax Rate Public Hearing scheduled for Nov 30, 2022

The Franklin Town Council will hold a Public Hearing in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Building, 355 East Central Street, Franklin, MA on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at 7:00 P.M. on the issue of allocating the local property tax levy among the 5 property classes for the Fiscal Year 2023. The hearing will provide an open forum for the discussion of local property tax policy. Interested taxpayers may present oral or written information on their views.

Prior to the setting of the tax rate, the Town Council must adopt a Residential Factor following which the Council selects the percentage of the levy to be borne by Commercial, Industrial and Personal Property.

Citizens are welcome to attend public meetings in person. Additionally, citizens will be able to continue to participate remotely via phone OR Zoom. Residents can visit the Town Website (Franklinma.gov) and click on the Town Calendar for up to date information on how to access the meeting. If you have any questions, please call the Town Administrator’s Office at (508) 520-4949.

Baker aide urges Avangrid to stay the course 

""GOV. CHARLIE BAKER’S top energy aide urged the offshore wind developer Avangrid to abandon efforts to reopen its electricity contract with the state and abide by the existing terms. 

Avangrid has asked the Department of Public Utilities for a one-month delay in approving the contract, saying the time is needed to work out new terms because the 1,200-megawatt Commonwealth Wind project is not viable without an adjustment in the electricity price. 

The company, which has said its project has been rocked by inflation, interest rate hikes, and supply chain difficulties, is expected to file a brief on the issue with the DPU on Monday."

Avangrid refuses to budge on need for pricing changes

"THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC UTILITIES was very clear a week ago, telling the state’s two leading offshore wind developers that they could either move forward with the pricing contracts they negotiated with the state’s utilities or withdraw from the proceedings and start over again. 

Mayflower Wind quickly responded that it would honor the terms of its contract but also said it would seek to inform all parties of the cost challenges wind farm developers are facing because of the war in Ukraine, interest rate hikes, inflation, and supply chain disruptions. 

Avangrid, the developer of the 1,200-megawatt Commonwealth Wind project, asked for more time to respond and then waited until the very last minute on Monday before filing a response that largely ignored the DPU’s order."
