Homicides in major US cities falling at ‘one of fastest rates ever’ – report | US crime | The Guardian

"Homicides in major US cities are falling at likely “one of the fastest rates of decline ever recorded”, a crime analysis has found.

Jeff Asher of AH Datalytics, a New Orleans-based data-analytics company focused on criminal justice, education and the non-profit sector, discussed that finding with the Wall Street Journal on Monday after combing through quarterly data recently released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

“There’s just a ton of places that you can point to that are showing widespread, very positive trends,” Asher told the Journal.

In the company’s sample of almost 200 cities with varying population sizes, murder was down by 20.8% from the period beginning in January through the end of March of this year when compared with the same time period in 2023, as Asher wrote in a recent Substack post on the subject."

Garnet Rogers, April 27, 8:00 PM at Circle of Friends Coffeehouse

Garnet Rogers

Garnet Rogers
April 27 at 8:00 PM  - $25

Garnet Rogers is a Canadian folk musician who started off his musical career writing, recording and performing with his older brother Stan Rogers. He released six studio albums with Stan, two of which were posthumous, after Stan's tragic death aboard Air Canada Flight 797. Garnet then embarked on a solo musical career which saw him shift from the more traditional folk sounds of his brothers music towards a more contemporary style. Garnet has recorded over a dozen albums since 1984 and established himself as a "charismatic performer and singer" with his songwriting and smooth, dark baritone voice.

The Circle of Friends Coffeehouse is a non-profit organization affiliated with Franklin's First Universalist Society. Concerts are presented in a smoke free and alcohol free environment at the Society's handicapped accessible Meetinghouse, 262 Chestnut St. in Franklin, and begin at 8:00 PM; doors open at 7:30 PM. Tickets for this show are $25. Beverages and gourmet desserts will be available. Please visit circlefolk.org for tickets and more information.

BT/ALC Big Band at Franklin High School - April 25 - free & open to the public

Thursday, April 25 @ 7:00 PM - Free and Open to the Public!

The BT ALC Big Band, led by trombonist Brian Thomas and trumpeter Alex Lee-Clark, has reshaped the depiction of the big band ensemble. By employing the traditional instrumentation reminiscent of Duke Ellington and Count Basie while infusing funk, soul and hip hop, afro-beat, reggae and jazz styles, the BT ALC Big Band has created an undeniably unique sound they dub Big Band Funk.  Original repertoire encompassing funk, soul, hip hop, afrobeat, reggae and jazz styles, combined with a rotating cast of Boston’s heaviest hitters make each show special.
