FHS field hockey and golf teams post wins on Wednesday

Field Hockey = Franklin, 1 @ Attleboro, 0 – Final

"Franklin coach Michelle Hess knew that her team was going to be in a battle when it visited Tozier-Cassidy Field. Attleboro made the Panthers work hard three times in 2024 and the Bombardiers were now a year older and a year more experienced.

After three scoreless quarters, Hess implored her team to try and shift the momentum, put the hosts back on their heels. With the Bombardiers sensing an upset and pushing hard for the go-ahead goal, sophomore defender Clara Blongastainer hit a long clearance deep into Attleboro territory.

The Panthers got back on the front foot and were able to win a corner. Freshman Amelia Manning slipped a pass to classmate Cade Taccini, who put a pair of shots on target. Attleboro’s sophomore goalie Mikayla Whitehead (eight saves) denied the first two chances, but the last rebound popped out to Ella Marzullo and Franklin’s leading scorer took her time before firing a shot through a thicket of legs for the game’s lone goal.

It was hard work, but Franklin pulled out the 1-0 victory, which extended its league unbeaten streak to a remarkable 100 games."

Franklin, 1 @ Attleboro, 3 – Final 

– Attleboro rallied to win four straight points to flip a 24-22 deficit into a 26-24 win to steal the opening set and went on to take the match, 3-1 (26-24, 25-17, 21-25, 25-22), over division foe Franklin. Senior Haley Carter set the offense up for success with 36 assists to go along with seven digs and five kills while junior Olivia Leonardo (18 kills, 16 digs) and sophomore Sophia Jaeger (19 kills) set the tone offensively for the Bombardiers. Sage Young (21 digs, five assists) and Sienna Quaglia (10 digs) continued to anchor Attleboro’s defense. Franklin senior Makayla Kuykendall had a strong all-around performance with 19 kills and 22 digs while sophomore Emerson Delleo added 10 digs, nine kills, and a pair of aces.

"Did you know that not everyone who parks in a handicap navigates a visible disability? In fact, it can be quite easy to judge the situation and assume that the person is parking there illegally.

In order to park in a handicap spot, someone must have a legal plate or placard and be approved by the Registry of Motor Vehicles with medical documentation from a physician that they experience one or more of the following (from Massachusetts law):

- cannot walk 200 feet without stopping to rest, or cannot walk without the assistance of another person, prosthetic aid, or other assistive device, as a result of a described clinical diagnosis

- has certain severity of cardiovascular or pulmonary disease

- blind to certain acuity 

- limb loss or permanently lost the use of limb(s)

Some people may have assistive devices in the vehicle that you don’t see yet.

Some people don’t have any aides and can only walk a short distance.

Some people need the space to fully open the door to get in or out without falling, instead of squeezing sideways through tight space.

Some people have adaptations or aides that you don’t see under their clothes. 

Some people may feel okay when they arrive, but by the time they leave the location they need adaptations due to experiencing fatigue, pain, or other symptoms.

Some have needs that we may never know about.

So, next time you see someone park in a handicap spot, but they don’t “look” like they navigate a disability, remember to not judge the situation.

Boys Soccer =Taunton, 1 @ Franklin, 2 – Final

– Junior Will McAuley completed his brace with just under six minutes to play as Franklin edged out visiting Taunton. The Panthers took the lead just before the midway point of the first half when McAuley latched onto a long throw from senior Josh Rappa that went over the top of the defense. Taunton pulled one back in the 60th minute off a one-timer from freshman Marcos Tavares to knot the score midway through the second half. In the 74th minute, junior Deacon Eglintine sent a free kick into the box, sophomore Luke Follen blasted a low shot that was saved, and McAuley cleaned up the rebound to make it 2-1.

Girls Soccer = Franklin, 7 @ Taunton, 1 – Final 

– Lily Strong scored four goals to power the Panthers to a bounce back road win. Following a tough loss to Foxboro, Franklin exploded for seven goals and restored its lead at the top of the Kelley-Rex. Morgan Lovell (assist), Laila Rosen, and Phoebe Cuneo (assist) also found the back of the net for the visitors, while Gwen Holland dished out a pair of assists and Anna Carosi added one helper.

Boys Cross Country = Franklin, 34 @ Attleboro, 21 – Final

– Attleboro took three of the top five spots to secure a win at home over Franklin. Owen Lacillade’s first-place finish in 16:50 set the tone, with Camden Martin right behind him in 17:14. Adrian Askew placed fifth in 17:54, while Julian Veloz (18:01, sixth) and Elijah Askew (18:02, seventh) closed out the scoring for the Bombardiers.

Girls Cross Country = Franklin, 25 @ Attleboro, 30 – Final

– Franklin’s Annabelle Santiago provided the highlight of the meet with a furious kick to the finish to grab third place by one second (22:18), helping the Panthers secure a 25–30 win. The Panthers took the top three spots overall with seniors Stella Nappa (21:24) and Vicki Courtright-Lim (21:33) going 1–2, while Violet Copeland (24:06, ninth) and freshman Sasha Ignatova (24:28, 10th in her debut) closed out the scoring. Attleboro was led by Alexa Frackelton (22:19, fourth), Olivia Killingsworth (23:20, fifth), Riley Schofield (23:52, sixth), Grace Shireman (24:01, seventh), and Savannah Boedeker (24:06, eighth).

World Computer Exchange (WCE) -
Franklin Chapter starts Saturday,. Sep 20

We’re excited to launch the WCE Franklin Chapter starting September 20, 2025. 

As part of this initiative, we’ll be hosting monthly Laptop Refurbishing Events on the third Saturday of each month.

This is a long-term volunteer opportunity open to kids entering 9th grade in the 2025–2026 school year. Each session will run for 4 hours, and students will earn volunteer service hours through WCE for their contributions.
