Town Council takes almost 5 hours to approve FY 2027 budget, the CPA funded projects & capital round 2 (video)
The Franklin Town Council met as scheduled on Wednesday, June 10 with all 9 members present in Council Chambers. The session went almost 5 hours with a vote to extend past 4, and a brief "bio break/recess" during.
The 'surprise' of the evening was the announcement that Police Chief TJ Lynch will retire in November 2026.
Ultimately the FY 2027 budget passed by a 6-3 vote, the CPA funding allocation also passed by a 7-2 vote. The use of free cash for the capital round 2 was also approved by a vote of 9-0

Franklin's Early Childhood Development Center Celebrates Creativity at Annual Pop-Art Night
The F.X. O'Regan Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) recently hosted its annual Pop-Art Night, bringing together students, families, staff and community members for an evening celebrating student creativity.
This was the first year that the school partnered with the Franklin Public Library, which hosted the exhibit and event.

The library was transformed into a vibrant gallery showcasing student artwork from across the ECDC program. Colorful displays featuring spring flowers, butterflies, cherry blossom paintings, textured collages, watercolor creations and nature-inspired projects highlighted the creativity and imagination of the young artists.
Families enjoyed strolling through the exhibits while admiring the students' work and artistic growth throughout the year.
The event also invited children and families to gather outside for music, bubbles, popsicles and play. Children laughed and danced while chasing bubbles on the library grounds, creating a festive atmosphere for families and staff.
"The evening was a wonderful reminder of the creativity, connection and community spirit that make ECDC such a special place for young learners," said Principal Kim Taylor.
Pop-Art Night is an annual tradition that celebrates student creativity and provides an opportunity for students and families to come together as a community.
"We are thankful to Franklin Public Library for hosting this year's event and helping create a memorable experience for students and families," said Principal Taylor.

At my ceremony, which I wrote about at the time, a representative from the New York City commission on human rights explained to her captive American audience what civil rights protections we had, and the judge who swore us in as citizens encouraged us to exercise our vote, serve on juries, run for office and speak out for our rights. We were each given a pocket constitution. The whole thing was a celebration of democratic values. I entered downtown Brooklyn that day as a resident alien. I left as a newly minted American citizen, equal in the eyes of the law to every other American citizen.
Oh, how quaint that time seems now. Immigrants without all the proper documents are not the only ones the Trump administration has its sights on. Naturalized immigrants are at a greater risk than at any time in recent memory of losing their hard-won citizenship, as the whole idea of citizenship gets put through Trump’s anti-immigration wringer. The Trump administration has been aggressively rattling the saber of denaturalization, a political tactic that incidentally is explored in Project 2025."

Inflation accelerated for a third-straight month in May amid a stalemate in negotiations to end a war with Iran that has pushed up energy prices, adding to the burden on already strained consumers.

The increase has been driven almost entirely by energy prices, which are up 23.5 percent from this time a year ago. Americans have felt that effect most acutely while filling up their vehicles: A gallon of gasoline costs $4.24 on average, according to AAA, up more than a dollar from a year ago.
Faster price gains have wiped out the pay increases Americans have received over the past year, on average. Adjusted for inflation, hourly earnings have fallen 0.7 percent over the past year and are exactly where they were when President Trump returned to office. Tax refunds that came in the spring have been spent, and reductions to the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program are now cutting into food budgets.
