Why are there multiple calendars?
There is a Cultural events calendar upon which other community events are layered to create the Community calendar.

Respectfully, the Library and Senior Center calendars are too full of events to include all their events so we tend to focus on the major events. Town and School meetings are also kept separate. Links for all the calendars are shared here:

The Cultural calendar displays only the cultural events      https://www.franklinculture.org/things-do/pages/calendar

FHS girls & boys tennis teams, baseball and softball teams all post wins on Tuesday

Via Twitter and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Spring sports competition for Franklin High School on Tuesday, May 14, 2024

Baseball = Franklin, 8 @ North Attleboro, 0 – Final
– Franklin jumped out to a three-run lead in the first inning and that was enough offense for senior pitcher Matt Miller as the Panthers rolled to an 8-0 win. Sean Kryzak (HBP) and Henry Digiorgio (walk) both reached and then came scattering home on an inside-the-park home run from senior Ben Yuknis to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead after just a half an inning. Franklin went on to add a run in the third, two more in the fifth, and one in each of the sixth and seventh innings. Miller did the rest from there, tossing a two-hitter in six shutout innings of work, issuing just one walk with five strikeouts; senior Mason Smith struck out one in a scoreless inning of relief. Yuknis, Rex Cinelli (two RBI), Lukas Phillip (RBI, run), Zach Winer, and Jake Shaughnessy (RBI, run) each had two hits for Franklin. Lucas Crovo (double), Zach Corsetti, and Bryce Silva each had a hit for the Rocketeers.

Softball = North Attleboro, 7 @ Franklin, 11 – Final
– Franklin overcame an early five-run deficit and plated seven unanswered runs between the fifth and sixth innings to pull away for a win over the visiting Rocketeers. North Attleboro jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first with back-to-back-to-back doubles from Maryellen Charette, Emily Tucker, and Lucy Palmer (3-for-4) and extended the lead to 5-0 on a sac fly from Molly Willey in the top of the second. Franklin got three back in the bottom of the second on an RBI double from Sophia Sacramone (3-for-4, two RBI, two runs) and a two-run single from Bridget Kennedy. A double from Grace Forman (two hits, three runs, RBI) and another sac fly from Willey restored North’s four-run lead at 7-3 but from there on out, it was all Panthers. Sacramone had an RBI triple in the bottom of the fourth, Sarah Boozang added an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth, and Marley Allen smacked a two-run home run two batters later to tie the game at 7-7. Sophomore Brooke Bonetti put Franklin in front for the first time all game with a two-run single to right. Katie Dowley (two hits, two runs) tripled and scored after a double steal and Allen added another RBI with a single to left to make it 11-7. Sacramone entered the game in the fourth inning and tossed four scoreless innings in relief, limiting North to two hits and no walks with four strikeouts. Jill Lewicki added two hits for the Rocketeers and Mary Rogers had a triple and a run scored.

Boys Tennis = North Attleboro, 1 @ Franklin, 4 – Final
– The Panthers took a pair of wins from both singles and doubles to defend home court against visiting North Attleboro. Franklin senior Jay Gorgas earned a 6-2, 6-1 first singles win and junior Dan Reis dropped just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 third singles victory. The Panthers swept doubles with juniors Aaron Ramaswamy and Gabe Terry landing a 6-4, 6-1 win at first doubles, and the second-doubles duo of Andrew Amante and Adarsh Pressanna added a 6-1, 6-4 win. North Attleboro senior Quinn DiFiore prevailed from a tight battle at second singles with a 6-4, 7-6 (3) win.

Girls Tennis = Franklin, 3 @ North Attleboro, 2 – Final
 – The top two teams in the Kelley-Rex might have had the match of the year in the Hockomock as Franklin prevailed 3-2 over North Attleboro with five terrific matchups. Franklin juniors Brooke Daniels and Sydney Tolonen emerged from a great back-and-forth battle with a close 7-5, 7-6 (10) win at first doubles while the team of senior Ava Davies and sophomore Avalon Thomes overcame a one-set deficit to earn a 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 win at second doubles. The Panthers also picked up a win from senior Chloe Essam (6-4, 6-4) in a competitive second singles match. North Attleboro senior Lauren Hunt won 6-2, 6-2 at first singles and junior Audrey Noreck came out of a great third singles match with a 6-2, 7-6 (5) win.

350 Mass Greater Franklin Node: Meeting, Thursday, May 16, 2024
350 Mass Greater Franklin Node: Meeting, Thursday, May 16, 2024

Here are some items for the meeting and for your attention:

Mini-Rallies for Climate Action on May 21! The state legislature is coming down to the wire to pass climate bills! We have about sixty days left to move forward on climate change in the state. 350 Mass and our allies invite you to rally for climate action! Our simultaneous mini-rallies will send a message to the legislature that we need them to do their jobs and pass climate legislation now. Find your local rally and join us. RSVP here.

     One rally will be in Franklin, on Tuesday, May 21, 4:30-6:00pm. Location: Median strip: Main St & E. Central St. (Rt. 140), Franklin, in front of the Rome RestaurantWe call upon Rep. Jeff Roy, the House Chair of the Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy Committee (TUE), to push to pass major climate legislation such as an environmental justice (EJ) siting bill and the Future of Clean Heat bill. Bring your enthusiasm, your bodies and your signs! (Signs can say "60 days left for Climate Justice!, We Want EJ Siting Bill!, Future of Clean Heat, etc.). Attend our Node meeting this Thursday and bring materials so we can work together to make our posters.

Stop Expansion at Hanscom Field! At the meeting we will each write a letter opposing the proposed expansion of private jet capacity at Hanscom Field which would allow more private jet flights with their extremely high carbon dioxide emissions. If you won't be at the meeting, it would still be helpful if you did this on your own. Here is some background information and a sample letter to send to Alexander Strysky, an environmental analyst in the state's Environmental Policy Act Office (MEPA).

Articles:  Massport's plan to expand private jet space at Hanscom is a climate debacle.   And These Massachusetts landmarks made a new list of the 'most endangered sites' in the US

     350 Mass member Jennifer Riley offers this instruction: "Some folks have expressed frustration with the guidelines for submitting comments regarding the proposed expansion of private jet capacity at Hanscom Field. I'm attaching a copy of my letter in hopes it might make it easy to modify it and send it in as your own; it needn't be this long. Please change any details that apply to me but not to you. The subject line should be: "EEA No. 16654 - L.G. Hanscom Field North Airfield Development, Bedford" and it should be sent to alexander.strysky@mass.gov."  Jennifer's letter is attached to this email.

For other activities and initiatives, see the Climate Weekly email and the Event Calendar.

Please try to join us for Thursday's meeting. We will maintain our schedule of meetings on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month.

Thank you.

Carolyn Barthel

Washington Post: "Are home prices still rising? See how prices have changed in your area"

"Many first time home buyers are struggling to break into the U.S. housing market as prices continue to rise.

Since 2019, home prices have surged 54 percent. In the last year, prices increased 5.8 percent — a more steady rise after the volatile years of the early pandemic, according to a Washington Post analysis of home value data from the mortgage technology division of Intercontinental Exchange (ICE). But high interest rates, low inventory and years of price jumps continue to challenge Americans buying homes.

Prices vary widely depending on where you live. Enter your Zip code below to see how the market value of the average home in your area has changed."
