Musings from the Franklin Art Association President

Dear members and friends,

For an artist, the past few weeks in our New England landscape have been spectacularly beautiful. The shimmering golds and oranges, the green leaves tinged with red, the brilliant red purples! A perfect palette for the watercolorist! I’m looking forward to seeing what Jerry Aissis, our next demo artist, does with his very recognizable watercolor palette, with his brilliant golds and oranges.

The Board has recently submitted a grant request to the Franklin Cultural Council for continuing support of our programs for the upcoming year. We are very fortunate to have their strong financial support which allows us to have top notch programming.

We are also excited to have the first of two annual shows at the Norfolk Public Library for the month of December. I hope you all will submit work for this upcoming show. It is a large space and can accommodate many paintings. So get out those brushes and paints and get painting!

We have teamed up again this year and are proud to announce we are working with LYMAN ORCHARDS.  Lyman Orchards is a quality orchard that produces an EPIC Pie. The flavors we will be offering this year are - Apple, Pecan, Pumpkin and Blueberry. These Pies are fantastic.... outstanding flavor, aroma, and taste. We have held the price and again this year are offering a quality pie for $18.00 per pie. It is no secret prices have increased everywhere and we worked hard to find a Quality product at a reasonable price.  

We have done our BEST to bring you a great product at the best possible price.  As was last year you will be able to DONATE a pie. All donations will be donated to the Franklin Senior Center and Franklin Food Pantry for distribution at Thanksgiving time.

You will be able to Pick Up your order of Thanksgiving Pies on Tuesday, November 26th from 3 PM – 6 PM at the CCD Offices at the old St. Mary's School on the 1st floor. You will see our signs.

St Mary's ready to resume services in chapel (not main church)

Dear Parishioners of St. Mary’s,

I’m happy to announce to you that, thanks to our friends from Service Master, our Chapel and Sacred Heart Hall are now clean and safe for use again! 

Therefore, starting this Saturday, November 2nd, we will begin using our Chapel and Sacred Heart Hall for all our Masses, both weekend and daily, and all other liturgies, meetings and events. 

We will resume our regular weekend Mass schedule in the Chapel and Sacred Heart Hall on Saturdays at 4 PM and Sundays at 7:30 AM and 10:30 AM THIS WEEKEND (November 2nd and 3rd).  

For weekend and daily Mass parking, please use the school parking lot, Franklin Senior Center parking lot, Daniel McCahill Street, Union Street or Main Street. The Oak St. parking area and Rectory driveway will not be available as our renovation team is working 7 days a week in the Main Church. Also, please do not give in to curiosity and wander upstairs for any reason. There is still a lot of soot and smoke damage that is strongly discouraged breathing in to our bodies. 

Our Daily Mass at 7 AM in the Chapel on Mondays through Fridays will resume on Monday, November 4th. 

Confessions will resume in the Chapel on Saturdays from 8 AM - 9 AM beginning Saturday, November 9th. 

All Baptisms, Funerals and Weddings will be held as scheduled in the Chapel and Sacred Heart Hall beginning on Saturday, November 2nd. 

All meetings and activities including St. Vincent DePaul can resume in the Sacred Heart Hall beginning Saturday November 2nd. However, whomever is coordinating those events will need to plan for use without tables as the chairs will be in place for Masses, like we have set at Christmas and Easter.  

This is great news that we can at least return to some use of our church so quickly. While it will not always feel ideal, at least we can join together again in our church in some form and fashion. We will all need to have patience as we continue to move forward and make the best of what we have.

Join us in welcoming Ken Gloss of Boston based Brattle Books! In this presentation, Ken talks about some of his favorite rare book finds and describes some of the joys of “the hunt” in his collection journey.  You will learn what makes books and manuscripts rare and what determines whether they increase in value. Enjoy fascinating anecdotes from private and institutional collecting, as well as guidelines for starting a collection of your own! Feel free to discuss your collection with Ken after the talk in an informal Q&A. No registration required.

FHS boys soccer close out regular season with win vs. St John's Shrewsbury

Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Fall sports competition for Franklin High School on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 

Boys Soccer = Franklin, 2 vs. St. John’s Shrewsbury, 1 – Final 

– Franklin saw its one-goal lead evaporate early in the second half but the Panthers pushed back and found the game-winning goal in the 69th minute to score a big win in the season finale over St. John’s, who was ranked 7th in D1 going into the game. 

The hosts took the lead in the 14th minute when Matt Honekamp’s corner was deflected at the near post and fell to Garrett Scagliarini at the penalty spot, and he was able to wrap his right foot around a low shot just inside the post to make it 1-0. 

The Pioneers pulled level three minutes into the second half after a cross was deflected twice before Seta Tah headed it home. 

The game-winner came with a quick build up from Franklin after Honekamp won possession in his own defensive third and connected quickly with Andre Missagia. Missagia played Scagliarini, who used a nifty flick to continue the play to the right wing for Jason Proenca, and his ball wide found Josh Rappa. Rappa played a low service behind the defense and Wyatt Herndon split a pair of defenders and buried a one-timer from inside the area to make it 2-1.

Notice of Advanced Removal of Early Voted Ballots from Envelopes and Advanced Depositing of Early Voted Ballots for The State Election 11-5-2024

In accordance with the Secretary of State Regulations 47.12 and under the provisions of section 7 (k) of Chapter 115 of the Acts of 2020, the Town of Franklin will be opening early voted ballots at the Municipal Building, 355 East Central Street at the following sessions:

• Monday, October 28th 9:00 AM

• Tuesday, October 29th 9:00 AM

• Wednesday, October 30th 9:00 AM

• Thursday, October 31st 9:00 AM

• Friday, November 1st         9:00 AM

In accordance with the Secretary of State Regulations 47.12 and under the provisions of section 7 (k) of Chapter 115 of the Acts of 2020, the Town of Franklin will be depositing early voted ballots at the Franklin High School, 218 Oak Street at the following sessions:

• Saturday, November 2nd    @9:00 AM

• Sunday, November 3rd    @9:00 AM - IF NEEDED

We respectfully ask that observers register by emailing townclerk@franklinma.gov in advance of all early voted ballots sessions.

In accordance with the Regulations 47.12 and the provisions of section 7 (k) of Chapter 115 of the Acts of 2020, no results shall be determined or announced until after the time the polls close on November 5th. At that time the results from the advance processed ballots will be added to the election day results and posted in a public place.
