"With a challenging budget cycle ahead, the School Committee will hold a legislative forum on education funding on Feb. 13, 7 p.m., in the Franklin High School lecture hall, 218 Oak St.
The goal of the forum is to increase transparency in the school system, and to pick the brains of stakeholders on topics such as rising health insurance, transportation, special education tuition, and other finance related topics.
They will also discuss a number of unfunded state mandates and the lack of funds to support them throughout the district."Continue reading the article online (subscription may be required)

"When something goes missing, hope of ever finding it seems to fade away over time. Franklin native and Shrewsbury resident Keith Lippert is looking to restore that hope to someone who lost a necklace nearly 40 years ago.
When Lippert was about 11 years old, around 1980, he found a St. Christopher medallion in the sand of Beaver Pond during a stroll.
“After hours, I found this necklace in the sand,” he said. “No one was there to turn it into, so as child would do, I just took it home and threw it in my drawer.”

"Several MetroWest and Milford-area firefighters graduated Thursday from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy’s Chief Fire Officer Management Training Program.
The 14-week program is designed to help fire officers become better department leaders and managers. As part of the program, all participants had to write a research paper that identifies a current problem or challenge to their department, while offering a solution. They must then present a proposal for their plan to municipal officers."

"The Stony Brook Camera Club will present “The Art of Landscape Photography” with Ron Wilson on Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
The presentation will show that subject matter provides the building blocks while composition acts as the glue holding it all together and lighting sets the stage for capturing a moment able to convey a sense of being there.
Topics covered will include: How to think visually through use of the elements of color, shape, line, texture and pattern, how to use light in a way that best reveals the subject, and how to frame an image around an effective compositional base."
