Oh yes, we did. Our third Writers Book will be officially launched at the Senior Center on Tuesday morning (09/26/23) at 10 AM.

This time we arranged for our collected works to be beautifully printed and bound as a self-micro-published run of 100*. 

It’s a real book book – 77 pages of collected writings and storytelling. Simple stories? Personal adventures? Musings? Poems?

It’s not in The Library of Congress. You won’t find it on Amazon or Google Books. It’s available only at the Franklin Senior Center. Come to our great unveiling, Tuesday, Sept 26 at 10 AM.

Congrats on an awesome race today at the Franklin Park Invitational in Boston!!! The girls varsity won their race led by Alex Batla (4th) followed by Emma Pruitt (17th),  Fiona Morrison (18), Katie Sweeney (23th) who also earned a medals! The weather can’t stop Franklin

The donation bin at the Franklin Food Pantry has a name -> "Purple People Feeder"

Six-year-old twins Addison and Gracelyn, winners of the donation bin naming contest, and their little sister visited with Tina Powderly, Executive Director of the Franklin Food Pantry, to check out the "Purple People Feeder."

Town Council receives Elks donations, approves debt exclusion question for Tri-County school (audio)

FM #1066 = This is the Franklin Matters radio show, number 1066 in the series. 

This session of the radio show shares the Town Council meeting held in Council Chambers on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. All 9 members of the Council were present in the Council Chambers. 

Quick recap:

• Three appointments to individual committees were unanimously approved.  a. Council on Aging - Collette Ferguson  b. Finance Committee - Heather Sanscoucy   c. Municipal Affordable Housing Trust - Kimberly Mu-Chow 

• Franklin Elks Riders presented a donation of $1k, the Franklin Elks Bingo donated $10k to the Town of Franklin veterans services

• Council goals review, a long list of accomplishments, a list to be proud of

• The funds previously allocated for purchase of a new ambulance were authorized to be paid to the vendor to hold the contract and avoid a price increase - Resolution 23-54: Ambulance Transfer & Appropriation

• The Council discussed and approved placement of the debt exclusion to fund the Franklin portion of the Tri-County RVTHS new building. The question language approved was as follows: 

"Shall the Town of Franklin be allowed to exempt from the provisions of proposition two and one-half, so-called, the amounts required to pay the Town’s allocable share of the bonds issued by the Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical School District to pay costs of designing constructing and equipping a new high school to be located at 147 Pond Street, in Franklin, including the payment of all costs incidental or related thereto?"

• The Open Space & Recreation Plan developed over the course of 15 months, multiple meetings and 3 public hearings was approved by the Council. IT will be submitted to the State and assuming their acceptance will also be part of the Master Plan Update now underway

• Town Administrators report provided updates on the migrant housing situation, the demolition delay report and a report on decommissioning a section of Spring Street.

Did you know that Franklin has been a member of the Charles River Climate Compact (CRCC) since its creation in 2019? 

The CRCC is a regional collaborative effort to increase climate resilience for the people and natural ecosystems in the Charles River watershed by implementing climate adaption and mitigation solutions. 

We work monthly with our neighboring communities to achieve these goals. Participating communities include Arlington, Bellingham, Belmont, Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Dedham, Dover, Holliston, Hopkinton, Lincoln, Medfield, Medway, Millis, Natick, Needham, Newton, Norfolk, Sherborn, Somerville, Walpole, Waltham, Watertown, Wellesley, Weston, Westwood, and Wrentham.

FHS boys & girls soccer post wins, field hockey gains a tie on Friday

Via Twitter and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the fall sports competition for Franklin High School on Friday, Sep 22, 2023.

Football = Franklin 13  @ Duxbury 42 - Final

Boys Soccer = Sharon, 0 @ Franklin, 4 – Final 

– Franklin scored once inside the final 10 minutes of the first half and once inside the opening 10 minutes of the second half to earn a big win over visiting Sharon. Hansy Jacques (from Wyatt Herndon) opened the scoring in the 33rd minute and Garrett Scagliarini (from Sean O’Leary) doubled the lead just before the break with a goal in the 37th minute. In the second half, Jacques returned the favor to Herndon for a 45th minute tally. Senior Rex Cinelli capped the scoring in the 61st minute.

Girls Soccer = Franklin, 8 @ Sharon, 0 – Final

– After opening her account for the season on Tuesday, Olivia Costa had a hat trick and an assist to lead the Panthers to their second straight 8-0 victory. Kelly O’Connor had a brace and dished out an assist and Anya Zub scored once and set up another. Selene Hammad and Gwen Holland both found the back of the net for Franklin. Morgan Lovell, Vera Hansen, Meghan Griffith, and Cailyn Bruno each had assists and Rachel Welch and Jill Hamilton split time in goal to secure the clean sheet.

Field Hockey = Franklin, 2 vs. Bishop Feehan, 2 – Final

– Franklin scored once in each of the first two quarters to stake a lead at halftime but Feehan rallied in the second half to tie the game. Emily Carney opened the scoring at 9:41 off of an assist from Haley Wernig while Sophia Cuneo scored an unassisted goal at 8:25 of the second quarter to make it 2-0. Devon Barry made four saves in net for the Panthers. Franklin head coach Michelle Hess praised the efforts of Cuneo, Wernig, and Lindsay Dennett.

The Franklin (MA) Town Council met as scheduled on Wednesday, Sep 20, 2023. There was a full and varied agenda accomplished in the 2 hour 16 minute meeting. All nine members were present in Council Chambers.
