Franklin Garden Club hosts “Fantastical Folktales of Flowers” - Oct 1 at Franklin Public Library
The Franklin Garden Club, in partnership with the Franklin Public Library, invites community residents to a unique, free program, “Fantastical Folktales of Flowers,” a delightful weave of storytelling, music and song. The program, created for an adult audience, will take place on Tuesday October 1, at 7:00pm at the Franklin Library located at 118 Main Street, Franklin, MA.

The program is open to the public at no charge.
Retold by award-winning storyteller and theatre artist, Diane Edgecomb, along with long-time collaborator and Celtic harper, Margot Chamberlain, these stories conjure a magical world bringing new meaning to favorite garden flowers. The centerpiece of the performance is the Persian legend of Nightingale and Rose.
Diane’s original adaptation weaves together myths from many lands that tell how the rose got its special powers of beauty and scent. The program captures the hearts and minds of the audience.
As an attendee at another performance stated, “You brought my garden alive to me in the most unusual and delightful way. I will never see a rose in the same way again!”
Bo finds Pennies from Heaven on his "CaCaCancer" journey (audio)

This session shares my conversation with Franklin resident and volunteer Bo Kinney conducted in the Franklin Public Radio Station on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.
Bo tells the story of his kidney stone which led to a discovery of prostate cancer and the journey he has been on and how he has dealt with it. This is his “public service announcement” on his lessons learned.

Girls Soccer = Foxboro, 2 @ Franklin, 2 – Final
– Franklin let a two-goal lead slip in the final 20 minutes, as Foxboro rallied for a solid point on the road against the unbeaten Panthers. Freshman Lily Strong continued her impressive early season form, scoring once in each half to put the Panthers up 2-0. Strong has four goals in her first three varsity games. Foxboro’s adjustments made it difficult for Franklin to play its typical game and the Warriors were able to climb back into the match. Ava Picard halved the deficit, finishing a through ball from Natalia Leach. The Warriors had the chance to equalize from the penalty spot after a foul on Shea Dorney, but weren’t able to convert. With just seconds remaining in the match, Sophia Pacella teed up Picard, who found the top corner to complete her brace and the Foxboro comeback. Foxboro goalie Julia Luck came up huge in the draw, making several key saves including one on a breakaway with just minutes to play.
Volleyball = Franklin, 3 @ Lincoln-Sudbury, 0 – Final
– Holding a 1-0 lead, Franklin secured a very tight two-point win in the second set and went on to complete the sweep, 3-0 (25-20, 28-26, 25-12), on the road at Lincoln-Sudbury. Junior Makayla Kuykendall was one of four Panthers with at least five kills, leading the way with 10 kills to go along with three aces and eight digs. Freshman Emerson Delleo (11 digs) added nine kills, junior Olivia Alberti landed eight kills, and freshman Charlotte Yuelenski (two blocks) chipped in with five kills. Brooke Daniels registered 26 assists and 12 digs in the win.

Empty Bowls Club students participated in Hunger Action Month Event

This past Thursday, the Franklin Food Pantry welcomed a Massachusetts-based food recovery organization, Spoonfuls, to speak about food insecurity and food waste. A handful of our EB officers attended this event and wanted to share some information and resources. Your actions, no matter how small, impact our community, so make sure to take any steps you can to help fight food insecurity!
Empty Bowls Club students
Some actions you can take to reduce food waste within your very own home include:
- Using all of your leftovers
- Making, and sticking to, a set grocery list
- Rethinking “Best By” dates on food (see first image for guide)

Cinema 80: "Silent Saturday" - Shorts by D.W. Griffith

After a well-received experimental run from January to May at the Franklin Historical Museum, Cinema 80, captained by videographer and cinephile Chris Leverone, is coming back for another season of amazing free `Silent Saturday’ silent film entertainment on Saturdays at 6 PM.
The program is free but donations are encouraged.

BSI Construction Update for the Week of September 16th!
Monday (9/16) - Friday (9/20): The construction crew will be working on West Central St between Rt 140 and Forge Pkwy between the hours of 7am-4pm. West Central St will be closed in both directions. Please follow posted detour signs for directions.
Monday (9/16) - Friday (9/20): There will also be a construction crew working on Grove Street from Rt. 140 south towards the MBTA train tracks between the hours of 7am - 4pm. Grove Street will be open to one way traffic only from RT. 140 towards Forge Hill Road.

At the Franklin Recreation Center, the construction of the new Beaver Street Interceptor Pump Station will continue with excavation to get the final grade depth for the pump station foundation.

Voting will begin on the DPW Facebook page between October 7 and October 18, 2024. The picture with the most likes received on the Facebook post will be declared a winner in the following categories:

- 12 to 17
- 18 & Over
- Judges' Choice
Winner will be announced at the DPW Touch a Truck event on October 26.
