"Launching her longest javelin throw yet at 11 feet, 10 inches, Cape Cod resident Rachael Abudaram landed first place in the Division 1, tier 16 spear-tossing event at the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association/Special Olympics Massachusetts Unified Track and Field State Championship on Wednesday.
Her excitement at the accomplishment on the Milford High School fields radiated as she ascended the podium to receive her ribbon.
“I’m not the same [as most people],” said Abudaram, 17, wearing a blue Riverview School jersey, her blond-dipped bangs restrained by a pink headband. She’s an incoming senior at the boarding school in East Sandwich, and also enjoys swimming, specializing in freestyle."
