Only a couple more Farmers Markets as the season winds down but the Pumpkin Patch is ready, and THE BLACK BOX has Mary Poppins on the schedule for 3 performance this weekend. Saturday can get you moving with the cleanup at DelCarte, and the rummage sale at Franklin Federated Church. Sunday you can check out the Cornhole Tournament with the Odd Fellows Club.

Franklin 5K Turkey Trot Returns to In-Person Race - Nov 25, 2021
The Franklin Food Pantry is pleased to announce that the annual Franklin Turkey Trot is back in-person on Thanksgiving, November 25, 2021 at 8:00 am and is celebrating its ten year anniversary! The 5K starts at 91 Jordan Road, Franklin, MA and follows a lollipop route in a local neighborhood.
The $20 early bird registration fee is effective through October 18 and then increases to $25. The registration fee goes directly to the Franklin Food Pantry, keeping donations local to help feed those in need. Participants can register online here. Due to COVID restrictions, the Franklin Food Pantry will not be able to accept food donations instead of the fee. Thank you for understanding this change in policy. Runners can also purchase a t-shirt directly from the registration page to commemorate their experience.
“In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, The Pantry has shifted its distribution model to meet our neighbors’ changing needs for food and services. This month, we are moving to a hybrid distribution model, offering both in-person and drive-up distribution. We have added home delivery and mobile pantries to reach our neighbors who cannot come to us and increased office hours to assist neighbors who may need more than food,” said Tina Powderly, Executive Director for the Franklin Food Pantry. “We are so grateful for the continued tradition of the Franklin Turkey Trot to help fund our many services. These programs help us provide hunger relief to our community, especially during these
challenging times.”
There are also several opportunities for local businesses to sponsor the race. Funds received from sponsorships are used to cover costs associated with the event, including the race registration company, timing technology, insurance, and security details.

The Franklin Food Pantry offers supplemental food assistance and household necessities to more than 1,000 individuals per year. The Franklin Food Pantry is not funded by the Town of Franklin. As a private, nonprofit organization, we depend on donations from individuals, corporations, foundations and other strategic partners. We are grateful for our many partnerships, including that with the Greater Boston Food Bank, that allow us to achieve greater buying power and lower our costs. Donations and grants fund our food purchases, keep our lights on, and put gas in our food truck. Other programs include home delivery, Weekend Backpack Program for Franklin school children in need, mobile pantry, emergency food bags and holiday meal packages. The Pantry is located at 43 W. FPAC to present Mary Poppins
The Franklin Performing Arts Company (FPAC) will present Disney & Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins. The production, choreographed by and starring Broadway’s Clay Rice-Thomson, will run October 15-17 and 22-24 at THE BLACK BOX. Everyone's favorite practically perfect nanny takes flight in THE BLACK BOX for this Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious musical adventure.
The production stars NYC’s Kaley Were as the title character. Were has performed regionally and across America with The Wizard of Oz National as well as at Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma (Bernice Bobs Her Hair, Mary Poppins, Oklahoma!, Big Fish), and Disney Cruise Line (Disney Magic, Disney Fantasy, Disney Dream). She has most recently been sailing the seven seas with Disney Cruise Line, performing on the Disney Dream in the IAAPA award-winning production of Beauty and the Beast. Were graduated from Oklahoma City University's Bass School of Music with a Bachelor of Music in Music Theatre. This will be her first production with FPAC.
Choreographing the production and starring as the loveable chimney sweep Bert, is Broadway’s Clay Rice-Thomson. Rice-Thomson has performed on Broadway in KING KONG (King’s Company), Newsies (Spot Colon), Matilda (Michael Wormwood), and the Broadway National Tours of WICKED (Chistery), Jesus Christ Superstar, West Side Story (A-rab), and Cameron Macintosh’s Oliver. His TV credits include Saturday Night Live, The TONY Awards, MACYS Thanksgiving Day Parade, The Tonight Show, GMA, The Late Show, The View, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and more. With FPAC, Rice-Thomson choreographed Matilda, starred in Christopher Rice's The Tappy Christmas Special: LIVE!, and most recently played Aaron Schultz in summer 2021’s Legally Blonde.
FPAC’s production, directed by Raye Lynn Mercer, is presented with a live professional orchestra and the spectacular aerial effects of Flying By Foy. Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins delighted Broadway audiences for over 2,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Mary Poppins is an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers, and astonishing stagecraft.

FHS girls and boys soccer teams both posts wins vs. Sharon on Wednesday
Boys Soccer = Sharon, 1 @ Franklin, 2 – Final
– Franklin made it two wins in a row, this time taking down visiting Sharon. Hansy Jacques opened his account on the season in the 27th minute, finishing off a pass from Rex Cinelli to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Senior Terry O’Neill doubled Franklin’s advantage off of an assist from Tim O’Keefe.
Girls Soccer = Franklin, 3 @ Sharon, 1 – Final
– Sophomore Anya Zub scored twice and had one assist as the Panthers picked up two points on the road. Zub scored one goal off a pass from Norah Anderson and her second came off a pass from Izzy Arnold. Zub set up Stella Regan for a goal for the Panthers, who had a 2-0 lead at halftime. Amber Marcus-Blank had the Sharon goal, burying her chance from the spot. Sofia Goclowski and Carly Pinnix played well for the Eagles in the midfield and Samantha Connors had strong games in defense and in goal.

Recap: School Committee - approves Superintendent's goals; hears safety presentation; delays vote (again) on MASC resolutions;

- Superintendent's goals approved by 5-2 vote; some wanted to delay for next committee, next committee will be doing evaluation and has opportunity to adjust in conversation with Superintendent as needed. Goals were actually a slight modification to those set last year for a two year period (this is mid-point), minor adjustment to incorporate faculty feedback into overall education process
- Insightful safety presentation covering protocols and process established, a process of review and evaluation and adjustment that is ongoing
- MASC resolutions previewed last time and scheduled for vote this time were delayed again to next meeting for some to be better prepared
- Entered executive session on negotiation and did not return to open meeting
