USAFacts: How many people seek asylum in the US?

Asylum is a form of protection for people fleeing persecution in their home countries. Some request it after arriving in the US (affirmative asylum); others apply while facing deportation from the US (defensive asylum). How many people seek asylum here, and where do they come from? Here's the latest data from the Department of Homeland Security.
  • USAFacts: How many people seek asylum in the US?
USAFacts: How many people seek asylum in the US?
Between 1990 and 2021, the US admitted 767,950 asylum seekers. In 2021, asylee admissions dropped to 17,692, the fewest since 1994.
  • Chinese nationals were the largest group of asylum seekers from 2012 to 2021, comprising approximately 63,000 people. That was more than one-fifth of the asylees entering the US.
  • Between 2013 and 2022, the government granted 27,868 Chinese nationals with affirmative asylum. Venezuelans (20,688), were the second-largest group of affirmative asylees, followed by Egyptians (14,909).

FHS baseball drops 1 run game to KP to end playoff run

Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Spring sports playoff results for Franklin High School on Monday, June 9, 2025

Baseball = Division 1
#12 Franklin, 1 @ #4 King Philip, 2 – Final

Franklin TV video for replay -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3Mzrnp_Ez0

"The night before Monday’s Div. 1 quarterfinal against rival Franklin at Lombard Field, senior Alex Lutfy dreamed of coming to the plate with the game on the line and delivering the game-winning hit.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, that dream came true.

Catcher Leo Dowling singled to left with one out in the seventh. Courtesy runner Collin Hasenfus advanced to second on a Vinny Menendez bunt and took third on a wild pitch. Franklin reliever DJ Silverstein intentionally walked Drew Herlin and, after falling behind in the count, Aiden Astorino to load the bases.

Lutfy walked to the plate with two of KP’s three hits in the game. He went with a pitch, driving it to deep left and just out of the reach of Franklin left fielder Owen Pennini. The ball bounced up against the fence for a game-winning, walk-off single that secured a 2-1 win (KP’s third one-run win against the Panthers this season) and a third Final Four appearance in the last four years."

“Wild About Franklin” has been added to the Town Common (video)

Dear Franklin,

“Wild About Franklin” is finished and ready for you and your littles to enjoy. Under the theme “Nature and Community”, I created a scene from DelCarte celebrating one of Franklin’s most precious gems.

A moth and butterflies are nestled amongst native wildflowers against the pond’s backdrop. If you look closely, you might notice that something is missing. I purposefully left out the bodies of the insects as an invitation for you and your littles to complete the scene.

Step against the box and interact with this - it’s meant for you to become a part of the landscape!

Thank you to all the passersby that came to say hello; the dog walkers, the runners, the many kiddos who joined me in painting, dear friends who stopped by for moral support bearing iced coffees and words of encouragement, and to Stan Watson for being my biggest cheerleader and for keeping everyone updated on my progress.

Thank you to the Cultural District, Cory Shea (@franklinculture), and to Senator Rausch (@beccarausch4ma ) for funding this project and for creating such amazing artistic opportunities in our town. And last but never least a big thank you to my husband and parents for holding down the Nisbet household so that I could do this.

I’m not sure if you can dedicate an electrical box but why not? This mural is for all the kiddos in town, but especially for my three; Henry, Lucy and Jack. It’s all for you.

I can’t wait to see how you interact with this mural. Please tag me and share your pictures with @kaylajeancreative

Stay Wild, Franklin ✌🏻

Successfully scoring summer concert tickets

Consumer Alerts from the Federal Trade Commission

By BCP Staff

To paraphrase Taylor Swift, buying concert tickets shouldn't feel like a bear attack.

But for many people hoping to see their favorite artist, sports team, or theatrical cast live, scoring tickets before they sell out can seem impossible.

Why?
Sometimes there just aren't enough tickets available for everyone who wants to go. But sometimes, you might be competing with people who break the rules.
