  • Citizen Comments

    • Steve Sherlock stepped up to talk about

    • “Hold harmless” is akin to OPEB, Other Post Employment Benefits (OPEB) was for years an unfunded mandate that drove every budget discussion until the Town realized that the funding requirement for the Norfolk County Retirement would be fulfilled shortly (now slipped to approx. 2035) but then once complete, those funds could be shifted to pay down the OPEB liability. The Town has a plan to fund OPEB. The School can not come up with a plan to fund hold harmless without Town help. There needs to be a plan as part of whatever financial plan the Town puts together.

    • While the Town (and correctly so) touts clean audits, that wasn’t always the case. The current revolving funds policy to maintain a year's worth arose as a result of an audit issue revealed during 2007. Part of the resolution was (1) the hiring of Miriam Goodman in March 2008 and (2) the intro of the policy to keep one year's worth of funds in the revolving accounts

    • Audio of student services available https://www.franklinmatters.org/2025/12/insights-into-student-services-how-in.html

    • Community calendar reminder, this week only Weds doesn't have a booster club, youth sports or otherwise a fundraising effort by eating at one of Franklin’s restaurants. Let me know of your fundraising efforts and they can get published on the Community Calendar

  • entered into Executive Session not to return to open meeting

Girls Basketball = Franklin, 33 vs. Wachusett, 66 – Final
– Franklin had a tough task on day one of the season, facing the defending state champs. Wachusett looked like it was in midseason form, scoring 28 points in the first quarter and 44 by halftime. Franklin had only 11 at the break but had double that total in the second half. Freshman Brielle Nicholls led the way for the Panthers with eight points, including a pair of threes in the third quarter. Liz Dumais added seven and Tessah Rodrigues scored five.

Boys Swimming = Franklin, 62 @ Attleboro, 87 – Final
– Attleboro boys opened the meet with a win over Franklin, using depth to control the scoring throughout. While Franklin won seven of the 11 events, Attleboro filled nearly every lane and piled up points in the middle places. Sophomore Kris Kotnisz led the Bombardiers with wins in the 100 butterfly (58.86) and the 100 breaststroke (1:05.05), qualifying for sectionals in both events. Captain Seal Mukasa finished second in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, junior Ayden Gietz placed second in the 500 freestyle, and freshman Murtaza Husain added a second-place finish in the 100 individual medley. Franklin was led by Zack Pecora, who won the 200 IM and the 500 free, and Ollie McCarthy, who swept the sprint events with victories in the 50 free and the 100 free. The Panthers also captured the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay behind Arsh Tyagi, Amir Shakirov, Pecora, and McCarthy. Tyagi added a win in the 100 backstroke for Franklin.

Girls Swimming = Franklin, 93 @ Attleboro, 68 – Final
– Franklin girls earned a 93-68 win over Attleboro, pulling away with key individual and relay performances. Ava Pecora led the Panthers with victories in the 200 IM and the 500 free, while Elyse Ferreira won both the 200 free and the 100 free. Franklin opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay and later took first in the 200 free relay behind Aleksandra Baghadasaryan, Molly McKinnon, Ferreira, and Pecora. The Panthers also added a win in the 100 backstroke from Baghadasaryan to help seal the victory. Attleboro was led by junior Samantha Provost, who won the 50 freestyle and the 100 butterfly while posting state qualifying times in both events. Senior Ava Dougherty added a first-place finish and state cut in the 100 breaststroke and placed second in the 200 individual medley. Provost and Dougherty teamed with Abby Emond and Allison Tower to place second in the 200 medley relay with a sectional qualifying time and finish second in the 200 freestyle relay. Cece Araujo added points with a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle and a third-place swim in the 200 freestyle.

Each week starting this Sunday November 30th through the end of December, I’m hiding a piece of original art somewhere in downtown Franklin, wrapped and ready for you to discover. Clues drop mid week, and the treasure appears Sunday mornings in a surprise spot.

Created with silver or gold accents, each piece carries a little glow to share hope and joy. This year, I invite you to share the light: take it, gift it, or pass it along.

Let’s keep kindness alive across town. Here are a few of the things I have done to help Franklin sparkle. Www.PaintingVenus.art

Snow Disposal Done Right via Franklin DPW

Snow Disposal Done Right

Not all snow piles are created equal. Where you move it matters for Franklin water quality.

Plowing snow into a drain or piling it near a stream means salt, oil, and debris can flow directly into our waterways. That runoff does not get treated.

Instead, store snow where it can melt into soil and be naturally filtered. Keep piles away from storm drains, wetlands, stormwater infiltration systems, and flood-prone areas.

Small decisions on your site can make a big difference for clean water.

"Haven Hot Chicken” Announces Store #010 In Franklin, Massachusetts

Franklin Location Marks First Store Outside of Connecticut and First Franchise Location

Haven Hot Chicken, the award-winning hot chicken brand “Born Hot. Raised Right.,” announced today it will be opening its tenth location – Store #010 - in Franklin, Massachusetts.  This will mark the brand’s first expansion outside of Connecticut, bringing Haven Hot Chicken’s signature menu of Crispy, Crunchy, Juicy, Spicy chicken (CCJSD) and vegetarian "Not Chicken," THE Sandwich (Food Network, Guy Fieri's "Best Bite in Town" Grand Champion), house-crafted sauces, craveable sides and seasonal limited-time offerings, to 477 W. Central Street.  With an expected opening date of January 2026, this will mark the brand’s first franchise location with The Coop Group.
“Our fuego family has expanded well beyond the borders of Connecticut, and we are thrilled to be expanding operations in New England,” said Jason Sobocinski, President and co-founder, Haven Hot Chicken.  “2025 marked the fifth anniversary of our first store opening in New Haven, so it’s fitting that the time is right for us to further our geographic footprint.  Bringing the BEST Hot Chicken and Not Chicken to new fans is our mission, and we are excited to delight new guests in the greater Boston area.”

The new restaurant will be operated by The Coop Group with operating partner Jake Dagdigian, a franchise entity formed by owners of several Jersey Mike’s locations across Connecticut and Massachusetts. The Coop Group has plans to open one additional Haven Hot Chicken location in Massachusetts in 2026.

“We’ve admired Haven Hot Chicken’s rise and the devotion of its fan base,” said The Coop Group in a joint statement. “The quality of the product is unmatched, the culture is real, and the brand’s approach to hospitality reflects the way we’ve operated our businesses for decades. We’re proud to bring Haven Hot Chicken to Massachusetts and excited to help lead the brand’s expansion across the state with Jake Dagdigian operating this location.”

“The Coop Group is regarded as one of the region’s most operationally excellent and values-driven QSR operators,” added Etkin Tekin, CEO and co-founder, Haven Hot Chicken.  “Their alignment with Haven’s culture and their recognition of the brand’s product quality drew them to the franchise opportunity, and we couldn’t ask for better partners to work with towards our first franchise location opening.”

The new Franklin store will offer online ordering through Haven Hot Chicken’s mobile app, offering curbside takeout and delivery, limited in-house seating and catering options.  The brand’s philanthropic mission of helping the local community will launch in the Massachusetts market through their beloved “Great Banana Pudding Drive,” which will raise 50 cents for every banana pudding and donate to The Greater Boston Food Bank.  To date, similar fundraising efforts in Connecticut have donated more than $70,000 to CT Foodshare.

Haven Hot Chicken currently operates nine company-owned locations in Connecticut:  New Haven, Orange, Norwalk, North Haven, Storrs, Middletown, Newington, Oxford and Fairfield as well as a food truck for events and promotions.
