"citizens of Massachusetts depend on state and federal agencies to work together"

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:

"Massachusetts State Police, US Coast Guard, local police and fire departments, federal public safety officials, private sector partners such as Gillette Stadium and Boston Harbor Cruises, the Massachusetts National Guard and representatives from other states prepare for a training exercise that will test the procedures and processes of these agencies by stressing them with large scale disaster and domestic threat scenarios.
To keep the integrity of the scenarios for the first responders and those involved in the exercise, the times, locations and type of disaster or threat have not been disclosed to the public. The responders will need to react as they would in a real-life situation - with no prior notice.
“This type of stress test is what we need to be prepared to support government and private entities during a real world disaster,” said Col. Margaret C. White, the director of military support for the Massachusetts National Guard, in a press release. “I am confident that this exercise will make us collectively stronger, more focused and more effective than ever before.”
The National Guard said there will be five training locations statewide."

Meet Me at the Y on “Welcoming Wednesdays"

“Coming into the Y, it’s a very welcoming place,” says Sheryl Floris, Hockomock Area YMCA member. “No matter what’s going on in my life, I know that I can come to the Y, It’s like a safe haven.”

That is what we strive for—to be the place where people find life balance, reach their full potential, are active and find camaraderie, and connect and spend quality time together. Our goal at the Hockomock Area YMCA is to ensure that when people walk through our doors, they feel welcome and supported regardless of age, gender, ethnic origin, religious affiliation, and socioeconomic level.

All families are invited to come to our Y at no charge and enjoy a sense of belonging and the benefits of membership on “Welcoming Wednesdays” during September. On September 19, and 26 we are offering free group exercise classes, nutrition coaching, kids’ activities, swim time, and much more. Our branches are located at 300 Elmwood Street in North Attleboro, 67 Mechanic Street in Foxboro, and 45 Forge Hill Road in Franklin.

Beverley Fonseca shares, “In the beginning I was nervous to join the Y because I had never exercised before. It was good to have someone show me around and show me what to do. At the Y, the atmosphere, the people, you just feel comfortable.”

The Y is for all and we believe our community is stronger when everyone feels welcome. We look to improve the quality of life of our members and families in the 15 communities we are privileged to serve. Visit https://www.hockymca.org/welcoming-wednesdays/ for a list of various activities and classes you can participate. Come see how the Y can be your home away from home.

Solange Ventura agreed: “When we have had difficult times, the Y was there for us. It is our support system, our family away from home. They know us by name and we feel comfortable and safe.”

“And if you want a place where there are activities for everyone,” states Daniel Ventura, “it is here.”

In the News: Urban Air Adventure open; reverse commuters targeted for MBTA

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:

"Though the local Urban Air Adventure Park franchise opened on March 17, anticipation had been building for some time before then.
“Every night before we’d opened, we would see five or 10 cars driving by and looking in,” said co-owner Chad Darling.
When the trampoline and family amusement facility had its grand opening, fellow co-owner Andy Powell said, that excitement had reached a fever pitch.
“We had lines wrapped around the building,” he said. “It was cold, but everyone had a great time - we gave out coffee and doughnuts.”

"The inbound trains are full on weekday mornings. Now Keolis and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority are trying to get passengers on the outbound trains at the same time, embarking on a new marketing campaign to encourage reverse commuting and leisure travel on the commuter rail.
“The whole principal is driving ridership in ways that aren’t being utilized,” said Dave Walker, director of revenue and marketing at Keolis, the commuter rail operator. “What we’re trying to do is slightly change that balance of where our riders are.”
Walker said about 90 percent of the roughly 125,000 daily journeys on the commuter rail are taken by 9-to-5 commuters to and from Boston."

Editorial Note: As a regular Franklin Line commuter, I believe that if the MBTA/Keolis would focus on improving the ride, the ridership will increase. With reliable transportation available, folks will use it. With a poor record, why?
